Pretty good B list thriller. It would've done really good in 2016-2018. Dane DeHaan is an amazing actor as always and did very well with the dialogue that was given to him, arguably not well written. Definitely was adapted from a Wattpad novel or something, it just gives off that vibe. However, the director and cinematographer did a very good job at making the film look good and modern. The story gets kinda all over the place and will leave you questioning "why didn't 'that' happen?" or "why didn't he just end it here?", which is why I rated it a 6/10 which is the max I think anyone can give it.
Honestly, the show is okay. Its entertaining, not terrible. But I had a difficult time believing anything in this show would actually happen. The acting wasn't that good. The writing was biased and pretentious. The baseline was creative but then it was given to writers who had no clue what the hell they were talking about. Honestly it's a nice time killer during a pandemic, but that's it.
I don't know what the series was like, but this long/ movie version kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Kept me guessing, had me wondering what was real and what wasn't....or what I thought was or wasn't. I didn't know up from down and that is hard to do with me! I generally guess much of the plot early on! Nope not with this! The ending was a bit mid, but honestly, I'll let that slide. It really makes you think about the future of the world in this 'internet/ surveillance/ social media' time of our lives. Things past generations didn't have to worry or think about. I'm forever changed. It's definitely worth a watch!
The acting was great in my humble opinion. I did notice a bit of CGI that I wasn't sure why it was used, but I'll just chalk that up to an "everything is CGI now" issue. Cheers to the creator of this story. Chefs kiss.

At all.
I'ld like to point out (since some don't see the idea behind all those numbers between 1 and 10), that 6 is a GOOD score! It means it wasn't great or brilliant, but good enough. And this was.
I read a lot of bad reviews that seems to me they have a problem about it not being 'realistic', like this couldn't happen in the real world. This to me, is not a valid complaint. Not every movie is Schindler's List.
I say this COULD happen, but it's definitely not plausible. But that's why it is a thriller series, not a documentary. It was clearly designed to entertain, and not to be deep. And entertain me, well it kinda did! The story is a classic thriller concept (which I happen to like), and nothing new at all. But then the way it unfolds, and the places it goes were pretty new to me and just surprising enough.
Definitely not a must see, oh no. But if you're in the mood for this kind of old school style thriller to be entertained, I see no reason why "The Stranger" could not cure that itch.

Very cheesy and bad acting except Dane DeHaan and Avan Jogia. The story is very impossible yet it is watchable just kind of stupid.
