Started strong and faded fast
I was intrigued at the onset, psychopath stalks and terrorizes a lonely young Uber driver, an interesting and timely thriller. Unfortunately, as the series plays out, the dialogue becomes more and more non-sensical and because of this the acting falls apart. I was left rolling my eyes during the final three episodes as Clare began having regular conversations with her stalker Carl E. Maika Monroe was excellent throughout the series, even with the silly dialogue and DeHaan was surprisingly good, playing beyond his usual character archetype of quirky leading man, transforming into a psychotic serial killer. The two stars ultimately can't hold this show together as dialogue devolves into silliness and the plot starts growing more holes than a piece of Swiss cheese.
No Continuity.. Though Lead Actors were Very Good.. Let Down
From Reel Tunez... The Radio Show All About the Movies....
Got to see the entire series run as a movie and wow.. talking about NO CONTINUITY! Blood & injury continuity ignored... editing of locations clearly were extremely incorrect (from a utility tunnel into a disco??)
The three lead actors were convincing and did a good job, but I want to know WHOSE MOM they cast as the police captain? The director's mom? A producer's mom? Acting was absolutely NOT convincing (really simply ridiculous).
The story builds throughout, but the whole thing fell apart in the last 10 minutes. It was like they gave 5th graders the chance each write a part of this from about five different classes and they combined the mess.
On the positive side, the shooting (cinema style) was excellent.. as well as lighting and audio. The people in this part of the production did an excellent job! As a matter of fact, some of the "big shots" were beautiful (it appeared to be a 4K shoot).
What a shame the story had so much potential but really hit a high level of cheesiness!
Barely got through the first ep
Didn't give a star rating since I only saw one ep. Man it is awful. I'm a fan of Dehan and Monroe, so I'm saddened and a little disappointed to see them in this level of show. The dialogue is so clunky and cringe I had to stop watching several times in the first (7min!) episode. Neither behave or talk like real human beings, and the build up to the "reveal" at the end is laughable, not scary, due to the execution. I hope for better projects for both of them in the future.
Stupid and ignorant
Not understanding technology isn't a good starting point for a story that needs technology to work. The resulting mess isn't worth watching. Performances mixed, rarely believable, without any worthwhile content. I kept asking myself what universe this took place in, because it isn't smart enough for science fiction, and isn't creative enough for anything else.
Avoid.
Avoid.
Not Horrible, Not Great, Either.
In the beginning, it's pretty entertaining, and the story keeps you hooked. Plot development is easy to follow. Around halfway, maybe a little more, is when the plot development starts to get difficult to understand, character motivation lacks. Overall acting is mediocre AT WORST, and is pretty good. Cinematography is also overall pretty damn good. But, like I mentioned, the writing sucks. I would say it sucks more in around the second half, but there's not many literary devices used throughout the whole show, making some parts spontaneous and badly written. But for the people saying it's not realistic, I wouldn't say that's a valid complaint. It's not made to be a documentary, just a little show to entertain you. So just because it's not realistic doesn't ruin the show (I would say most Marvel movies could never happen, they're still fantastic and successful movies). But yes, there are very few plot holes, and the ending could've been ALSO written more skillfully.
