It was thought that this anime was lost for many years, until the 1990s when 16mm prints of the show were found at a TV station warehouse.

The Matsuno brothers have puns in their names:

• "Osomatsu" means "lame" or "ill-prepared"
• "Karamatsu" is the Japanese word for the larch
• Choromatsu is named after "choroi", which means "easy" or "simple"
• Ichimatsu is named after "ichimatsumoyo", which means "check pattern"
• "Jushimatsu" means "society finch"
• and "Todomatsu" is a fir tree.

The lyrics for the theme songs were written by "Osomatsu-kun" creator Fujio Akatsuka.

This is the first animated series of Fujio Akatsuka's "Osomatsu-kun" comic.

Iyami was named after the term "iyami", which means "gaudy".
