This was a new re-cut version of Franz Schnyder's 1960 magnum opus "Anne Bäbi Jowäger", which was originally shown in two parts. There had been a first one-movie version in 1962 that had a running time of 149 min. (4080 m), as a response to the relative commercial and critical failure. By 1978, the movie had lost 1h25 of its original running time! But the Swiss master did the job himself with his cutter Hermann Haller...

Alternate versions
As already mentioned under "Trivia", this is a director's cut of a longer version released in 1962, which has been lost. Both this version and the 1962 version were based on two films released in 1960 and 1962 respectively (see "Connections").
