Slow burn to start

Interesting - slow at the beginning - favourite character is Lina.followed by Sloane - Gia is just all over the place , Maggie is young and foolish and trying to regain her self respect. The male characters in this seem very much secondary at least it would seem so at the beginning , but okay a very real role moving forward. If you can get over the first few or so episodes you will invest in the rest of the show.. this is. It something I would usually watch, but it intrigued me from what others were saying and talking about. In parts it's quite raw, emotional, sexual, bouncing from hot to cold.

These are real women's stories

Lisa Taddeo actually went and met these women and wrote about their lives - these negative reviews are so harsh and criticizing the storylines - that's how they actually happened - this show is based on true stories that Lisa wrote about in a book and now it's been made into a show - I really don't understand the harsh criticism I've read. I am loving the show so far but that might also be because I read the book. I am not a big reader (I'd like to be) but I really enjoyed her book so to see these characters brought to life - I am really appreciating reimagining this story with these actors and getting to watch these stories about real women, played out by women, directed and written by women - so any criticism of how "anti-feminist" it is is just weird. I like the show.

Three Women is one great show

I admit I was skeptical during the first episode, which felt heavy handed with its use of narration, a bit gratuitous with some of the nudity, and a little too familiar with its stories of female sexuality. But I'm really glad I stuck with the show beyond that episode, because it turned out to be a deep and thoughtful character study of flawed, but very relatable and/or intriguing characters. As the series went on I continually went back and forth over which storyline I found most compelling, but now having seen all 10 episodes, I can honestly say I didn't have a favorite because they were all so interesting. The performances by all the leads were also exceptional and even the lesser known supporting cast really shined throughout. I highly recommend this series to anyone who's interested in great storytelling, complex characters, and terrific acting.

... with these two... please

... how can you not watch this show... Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin.. either would be enough, but both of them... GLOW had me falling in love with Betty Gilpin, and it probably is not one of her best known appearances, but Endings, Beginnings was all pure alluring Shailene

... way too early to say much about how good or not Three Women will be, but I'd not be saying much against these two... Showtime had the series and decided not to proceed with it, handing it over to Starz... thanks for that

... slated for ten episodes, so there's going to be time to get deeper into character development.. really looking forward to seeing what this production will be offering

... 01.22.24 - near one out of six raters (still very small sample have voted so far) give it a '1'... that's scorn for reasons other than the quality of the work... this is a very-good-production, builds story-line-character-development throughout... acting's-outrageously-solid... will for sure be watched again & again... a-solid-'9'

Betty Gilpin is perfect, but the series did not catch me

After 3 episodes we unfortunately fell off this show. We liked the first episode and the show is filled with a lot of talented actresses, the second episode was brilliantly acted but not that convincing in regards of pacing and script and already boringly sex focussed. With the third episode it really delves into mommy porn territory and we really failed to see the depth and were really bored.

I am sure there will be some great parts in the rest of the episodes but we are too old and ununterested in drawn out and rather explicit sex scenes.

It is great to see Gilpin being given material to really work with but i guess a show about the sexual lifestyle of 3 US women is just not our cup of tea.

Perfection! I'm in tears.

This show has been airing but I ignored as I thought it was the movie that was on a month ago called a similar name. So I'm binge watching and I'm on the 5th episode. I've decided even if the rest are horrible? I'd still give it a 10. It's just that well done! Even better is that it's a true story. One that's truly imperfectly but perfectly honest. If you are female, I'm sure there's something here for you. If you are an open minded male? You too. If you are a guy who likes a women that's great at faking the big o you'll probably hate this. Hence the lowball ratings from a few lol. Bonus points the the musical director in this!! Hit damn! I even forgot about a few of these gems! Definitely getting the soundtrack if available. Lighting guy... can't forget you! Your awesome! A movie I can see . Not all darkened scenes! Thank you! Sound! Thank you for keeping it on the level! Great job! Wardrobe. Chefs kiss to you. Needless to say, the writer and director in this stand out. It's perfectly executed the way life really does often present! I wish you all every award there is! I'd mention the actors but I'm not finished watching and don't want to forget to acknowledge anyone. Watch it! It's right up there with queens gambit.

stunning and powerful

Shailene Woodly is spectactular in this. The sex scenes are intimate and sometimes awkward but never porny... just passion. Episode 5 deserves an award i think the most powerful arc i have seen on television. Each of the three women are amazing Dwanda wise is simply impossible to look away from. Lisa walks the walk by including her own messy begings w Jack. Suprising since they were not in the book but she does bring it all together. A brilliant move on the writers parts. I love this show. I also think its great that starz picked it up. Showtime is gone starz is making its way with some great lineup. This on the top of this season.

Fav show

Loved this show! Shaylnn woodley is so fun to watch. Her story line was my favorite by far, I love jack- what a man! Maggies story line was a little draggy definitely the most boring teacher student story line I've seen. The other women made up for it, I love Lena. Her story was relatable and the waiting by the phone emotions were spot on!! We have all been there waiting on someone to get back to us and trying not to let it totally consume us! I wish I could watch 5 more seasons. It was deep, emotional, binge worthy tv! I think I'd watch anything Shaylnn stars in. I extended my STARZ subscription just to finish this series and I will be resuming it if we ever get a season 2 of three women!

You wonder how they thought about the sex scenes?

A series about women, for women, and which I understand is supposed to have some kind of feminist perspective. How could they have missed something as basic as the fact that none of the many long sex scenes contain anything other than penetration? The men in the series act like teenagers in the bed.

Complete absence of caresses, hands and tongue. Are the creators familiar with something called the clitoris?

Otherwise, its an ok show but nothing rememberable. It feels slow and i find the storyline about the writer booring. Linas character and storyline is the only one which feels more interesting.

16 minutes In & I'm amazed!

I Never Ever write reviews. Far be it from me to critique another's art. But!

I'm only 26 minutes into the first episode on STARZ and am godsmacked!

What a revolutionary take on women in this contemporary society. Stellar dialogue and cinematic performances by these beautiful young actors. WOW, so refreshing to see what the new kids on the block are coming up with!

Well Done.

They say I have to come up with 257 more Characters to qualify for this review.. So here goes: Yes and Yes and Yes! Wish for more brilliance from the writers, producers, STARZ Network and a leap to go too far, too soon.

Feminist Fable or Fantasy?

Three Women attempts to tackle feminist themes, but often falls into the trap of caricatured characters and exaggerated storytelling. The portrayal of both female and male characters feels fake and one-dimensional, detracting from the potential depth of the narrative.

The show seems to rely heavily on stereotypes rather than exploring the complexities of its characters' lives. For instance, the women are often portrayed as either hyper-emotional or overly empowered, lacking the nuanced development that would make their journeys relatable. This reductionist approach not only undermines the feminist message but also risks alienating viewers who seek authenticity in character arcs.

Moreover, the dialogue often feels forced, as if the writers are trying too hard to deliver 'witty' or 'provocative' lines that ultimately fall flat. Instead of sparking meaningful conversations, it often leads to eye-rolls and groans.

The pacing also suffers; moments that could have been poignant are rushed, while others drag on unnecessarily. This inconsistency disrupts the flow of the story and makes it difficult to invest in the characters' struggles.

Overall, while "Three Women" aims to be a bold exploration of contemporary femininity, it can come off as cringeworthy rather than thought-provoking. The show misses an opportunity to engage in a deeper dialogue about women's experiences, leaving viewers with a sense of disappointment rather than empowerment.

Excellent!!!!!

Definitely, the actresses and actors in this series are the best, what an incredible performance! Amazing, the series made me cry, get upset, laugh, etc. The series is full of emotion, very well-written, but what impacted me the most was the acting of the girls. The four girls should be acting in many more movies and series-this is quality acting. Generally, American actresses, compared to European ones, can't cry without looking fake, but these four actresses, I take my hat off to them. Honestly, I watched the whole series just for them, and that's when I realized the series is also very well made and written. The theme is real and sensitive.

I really recommend it. Of course, in the end, you want to know what happened with Gia, but the reality is that the essence is not what happened to her, but the necessary connection between humans, in this specific case.

Attention grabbing!

Betty Gilpin is becoming a national treasure, picking good projects! I knew it would be worthwhile when I saw she was one of the stars. They were all excellent!

My concern is that it is hard enough for women to come forward! Wow! It is like crawling out of quicksand! I think the movie could have, should have given options for women to feel supported coming forward. That part is a Huge let down!

I volunteered with Sojourn House for a while. We also did fund raising with showings of "The Vagina Monologues." These women were brave and there is a powerful network of some of the most prominent women in the country to help women come forward. There is no reason for any woman to suffer in fear or feel like she has to take things into her own hands with the strong support we now have.

I hope there will be many more shows, series, like this and that they will highlight the great options available to women now.

God bless you all for making such important subject matter so much fun to watch!

Soo boriiinggg

It's so boring and unoriginal.

The narration adds nothing. In fact, it distances the viewer from the story, constantly reminding you that it's just a collection of representations rather than someone's story you can truly immerse yourself in.

Also, I've noticed, as a woman, that when a film or series is about women, for women (in this case, based on a book by a female author who also wrote the screenplay), women automatically seem to like it. As if supporting women is confused with blind, uncritical praise.

But the series is weak, derivative, unoriginal, and very boring.

And why those erotic scenes have to be so long, it's sooo boring and brings nothing.

[4.9] From cop to writer. From girl to supergirl.

What could you possibly write about this series besides wetness, screaming, moaning, hurting and "distasteful" peak sensations of the senses and faces. It is too weird slow with super uninteresting conversations and happenings, with good acting though, but failing to really grab viewers' attention.

You make a series, you want it impactful, enjoyable by both genders, so with that story, make it at least a sixteen episode one that slowly but surly unfolds with a real ending.

Not Just Bad...Terrible!

This was HORRIBLE! A consummate waste of time. Disjointed with zero continuity, no obvious rationale or character exposition. Although the premise was a bit suspect, the trailer lead me to think the production value and promo equated to a decent proposition. Boy, was that wrong! Who the hell green lighted this total mess? Someone obviously had an inside motivation to push this dog forward. The nudity was so vapid and the sex was so obviously staged, it was like what I imagine a cheap porno shoot to be. So depressing that this was characterized as a portrayal of womens' desire. Skip this and delist the Starz network, as well!

I guess it's feminist but it also seems like porn

Yeah, I guess it's sort of a feminist movie, and I didn't read the book so I can't comment on that, but the whole thing seemed like an excuse to serve up a bunch of porn. I got so bored with the lengthy sex scenes, I ended up fast forwarding through them. The people were beautiful, and there was some male frontal nudity which is unusual in non-hard-core movies, but I still just got the feeling they were using the interesting characters as an excuse to serve up some soft core porn which sort of works against the whole feminist thing in my opinion. What made it all worth while was Maggie's story. What a great way to let this young woman's experience come out. She was so poorly treated in the actual time that she tried to bring her complaint against her former teacher. A teacher should be protecting a student and what she went through was absolutely inexcusable. I am so glad the story was able to be shared publicly in a movie and book. That must make her feel a little vindicated. The other two stories were interesting and left one thinking but again felt like excuses to serve up long sex scenes.

Shoot that drama up like dope

I was mostly just really embarrassed for the majority of the characters, basically the whole time I was watching this show.

I had to skip a lot of American porn, my dudes. These characters, just absolutely consumed by adolescent, hedonistic and selfless behaviors and desires.

I couldn't help but laugh often at things I assume the writers didn't intent to be funny at all but overly trying to be "moving and heartbreaking". Especially during the scenes where the narrator speaks ominously and over dramatically during the characters ongoing hedonistic and laughably adolescent pleasures.

Honestly everyone in this show is grounded. Ha, just a simply way to put it.

This isn't feminism...

The Series Three Woman positions itself as an unflinching exploration of womanhood and sex but stumbles into something far more shallow and frustrating. The characters are flat, offering no emotional depth or reason to evolve. Instead, they remain consumed by their own vapid hatred of their lives and obsessed with what "others" are supposedly saying about them.

The irony, however, is glaring: when you pull back the curtain to see who's really voicing these awful sentiments about women, it's the show itself. The supposed critique of societal expectations turns into a self-loathing caricature that tears women down while pretending to lift them up.

It's a painful watch, not because it's raw or real, but because it's so devoid of heart or genuine understanding. Without growth, humanity, or meaningful insight, the series feels like a cynical exercise in judgment rather than an exploration of womanhood.
