Stay with this to the end!

This mini-series was based on a real life story and had been done as a play in 1863. There were also at least two previous movies produced. For some the weakest point in this production may well be the storyline. On it's own merits it will keep the viewer watching, but just barely. The final part is what packs the most emotion. For those looking for a light, fluffy adventure- this is not the choice. It goes for realism and grit with doses of violence. Again it is the last episode that raises the bar on violence. The high point of the mini-series is the cinematography. Much is conveyed through the views of the sky and countryside, most often looking rather bleak. The story involves the hunter and the hunted, family loyalty, spousal devotion or the lack thereof, and most important- a fight for the rights of the poor and downtrodden. What enhances the story is the acting and excellent production values. It's sort of a Robin Hood and Don Juan combined, but with much, much more serious overtones.
