Under the Mercy

The character of Chelsea evolved from a female passer-by originally played by Joe's ex-step daughter, Haylee. However, once the other writers (Eric and Peter) decided to change the character to a single mother who had a strong unrequited romantic tension with Chad, Joe insisted someone else be cast. The name Chelsea was actually picked haphazardly by the other writers. Joe had a friend with that very name (Arena) who he immediately contacted to play the role. Arena is not a mother in real life, but in preparation for the role, Joe setup a baby shower for her and invited all their friends, much to her chagrin.
