Since it's free this month on Playstation...

I'll be honest, I had no real idea or interest for this game before playing it. I'm not a fan of the souls genre, but I do enjoy a challenge. You will die a lot, but not to the point of giving up on a boss. Unfortunately, a big part of the challenge is manoeuvring your character with the stiff controls and limited FOV. I really wish the camera wasn't so close to the protagonist, because it takes away from the experience. Frankly, it makes some deaths feel like they weren't your fault, which is always a bad thing in challenging games. After almost obtaining the platinum for it, I must say, this game did not disappoint overall. If you can find a friend to go through the story with, it's a solid 8/10. If not, then I must say it's more like a 7.5.

Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I hadn't even heard of this game before it's release. I just read somewhere that it was like dark souls with guns. I love the dark souls series. Tough games but with a nice balance, nothing that can't be achieved with practice. This game is very much the same. Nice trait system and a good choice of guns. I mainly played solo on my playthrough but the co-op is fantastic. You can jump into peoples worlds and face a multitude of bosses who you may never encounter in your world.

All in all it's a fantastic game and it's not even a full priced game.

I played on PS4, I haven't seen the game in disc version yet, only available to download on the PS store.

Great game but lacks loot and too short

I really enjoyed this game. It's hard, which is nice. The shooting and the gameplay is good and suits and contributes a lot to the feeling of the game. Graphics are good enough and works well. The boss fights are overall very good. There's definitely a geat difference in difficulty between the bosses, which is good imo. They are generelly quite different from each other and gives you a different challenge and makes you do unique things/gameplan each time. It's also very nice that the semi open world and dungeons are different for each save, though I don't know if I like that you don't get all bosses in each save. Especially since the game is very short, around 15h if even that. Though it gives you more reason to replay the game which is definitely something you would do if you enjoyed your first playthrough.

The weapons and armors loot and overall progression over the game are overall a disappointment. You start with you class weapons and then you can buy the starting weapons from the other classes. Then you can't buy or craft new ones apart from the ones you can craft after killing bosses. And there's very few you find from loot. Kinda the same goes for armors. A lot of the weapons are cool though and it's good that you don't just use a regular gun all through as that would be boring.

Imo it's diasappointing killing enemies, discovering and looting in the semi open world and in dungeons as there's not that much loot, the main reason is to loot iron and better metals to upgrade your weapons and armor pieces. And to just clear the path to get to the next area, dungeon or main boss.

The core of the game is really good but it could have been so much better. Things I would like: * Longer game * Bigger semi open worlds, now it's just a path * Gear loot or gear crafting resources from regular enemies and elite enemies.

Wouldn't really recomment playing solo. I played it 2p and you can difinitely see it's made for 3p (or 2), for example there's usually a lot of smaller enemies that keeps spawning during the boss fights. In terms of difficulty I would probably play normal if solo. If you're 2 you can play normal and hard if you're experienced or want a challenge. Wouldn't touch the upper two difficulties unless you're 3 or really want a challenge if you're 2.

I gave it a try. I was disappointed.

Graphics are pretty good, nothing special. Gameplay is not great. Movement in the game is also not great. And there's no way to know if a bad guy is coming up behind you (while fighting other bad guys) until they hit you.

    3.5 out of 5 Stars

Not sure if this games labeled a "souls-like" but I will 100% call it just that; a souls-like with less emphasis of melee and a full throttle emphasis on guns, abilities, and carnage.

At first, I started playing this game with my brother, and while it didn't last long, I had a blast. Luckily, my friend wanted to play it with me, so I was able to play this game all the way through and give its justice... which may have hurt my opinion of the game sadly. Anyways, this games story deals with a sentient disease/sickness called The Root, which is taking over multiple realities. You are tasked to find and eradicate the root, going through many realities in doing so. Now, the comparison with dark souls is apparent. Not only is the boss fights really difficult, but they have rings/amulets that akin to Dark Souls. Same as leveling up weapons and boss weapons. Now, I've only played Dark Souls 1+2, so idk if 3 has this, but the cool thing about this game is that not only do you get boss weapons from killing bosses, but you also get mods, which are basically abilities for your guns. And you can mix and match with the weapons that aren't boss weapons which makes builds so much more fluid and customizable. Now, playing through the campaign normally with my friend, we ended up killing a good portion of the side bosses, with some being way easier than others. The problem with this game is that it used RNG for it map layouts and boss spawning, which hey, it makes the game replayable ... but to an extent. If there's a certain boss you want to fight, there's a good chance you will have to replay the same "biome" multiple times since the RNG doesn't seem to exclude bosses you already fought. So, the dlc to this game (swamp Corsus) was pretty pointless imo because we replayed that biome over 6 times and never was able to kill the Iskall Queen. Despite that dlc, the other main dlc, Subject 2923, proved to be a complete blast of a dlc. Giving some more cool lore, creatures, and of course, the final boss. It was definitely a great way to end the game. Swamp of Corsus survival was pretty mid imo, although me and my friend gave it a swing a few times with little success.

In all, this game was pretty solid, albeit frustrating. Some of these optional bosses are infuriatingly hard, but so rewarding once they were finally defeated. The main boss fights were awesome, the map layouts were procedurally generated so not the best, but there was always loot and scrap to find, and the teamwork this game enforces to kill some of these optional bosses can be quite rewarding. Definitely recommended for coop fans.
