I'm a true crime junkie and renovation show fan, so i had high hopes for this show. But it does neither genre well. The short format is extremely annoying. It's like having long commercials constantly. The show has potential, just the execution falls very flat.
When I first saw this listed I wanted to watch it, but it is not quite what it says it is.
It is a reno show, not a flip show. They are not buying murder houses and then flipping them. Instead, they reno a room or area for the home owners who, as far as I know, keep their newly decorated home. So not a flip.
It is fun to see people who live in a murder house talk about their experiences and weird vibes, and that is the best part of this show.
The actual reno part is short and not as much fun, as the hosts mostly talk about what they want to do and then you see a reveal.

What a great concept. Unfortunately it was a huge let down. Usually people drawn to these sort of things are true crime junkies,or the curious, this was such a unique way to literally open the doors from a diffrent perspective.
Giving the present owners a new space to call thier own with less creepy reminders could of actually been heartwarming an portrayed thier perspective also in a unique way.
It all fell flat,I only watched one and I can tell you that's more then enough. The two hosts are almost cringe worthy to listen to. OMG it's blood Ewww. So stupid an cheesy. There is no chemistry between the both of them an no apparent interest in the crime itself other then the shock value. At the end when they were talking about how they decorated the place, was like reading from cue-cards the look on the couple's face of "wow this is so fake" was kinda funny. The bad spooky music in the beginning, the black n white flashing house pictures then the upbeat hosts acting all shocked.
I know a thousand years ago these styles of shows worked,ya know trading spaces¶normal. They infused the same two shows with no actual flow.
What a shane,coulda be amazing...

I so wanted to love this show, but it was clearly created by people who watch too much HGTV and not nearly enough ID.
Maybe add a medium or retired homicide detective to the cast and a little more of the crime history and they'll have a show.

You can watch any other reno show and they're all doing the same things: granite counters, white walls, shiplap slapped up to cover a variety of ills, and well... The homes in these are pretty much interchangeable.
What I like so much about this show is nothing is cookie cutter at all. The accent wall they did in one home, where they tacked wood strips onto the wall was nothing short of fantastic! And to use black paint in the dining room and foyer? I didn't think that would work at all, but by the time they were done, it looked so darn great!
I also like it when they ask the owners of the home what THEY want, rather than telling them what they want.
The other reno shows can learn from this one. How about NOT using Carrera marble? How about NOT using shiplap on every wall in the house and ceiling? How about NOT painting every wall either white or beige?
I live in a smaller home and am always on the lookout for ways to work with my space and this show does such a GREAT job of renovating based on the space, rather than what THEY like.
