Exclusive: Prolific doc makers from both sides of the Atlantic are teaming up for a doc series on Afrobeats icon Fela Kuti.
Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams and his One Story Up banner has teamed with BAFTA-winning UK producer Andy Mundy-Castle’s DocHearts to create the program, which we understand is likely to be a four-part limited series on the African music pioneer.
Access has been secured to those close to the late Nigerian star, whose funeral in 1997 attracted hundreds of thousands of people. His focus on meshing West African music with funk and jazz, along with his ultra-charismatic performances, made him one of the 20th Century’s most important musicians, influencing the likes of Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Jay-Z and Kanye West.

It’s been less than a week since South Park’s Season 27 premiere aired, and the relentlessly Trump-skewering episode has clearly made a big impact on the world. Although it somehow didn’t screw over Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance Media.
In addition to making worldwide headlines and eliciting a sternly-worded statement from the White House official tasked with commenting on Comedy Central cartoons, the episode has now inspired at least one street artist. And, depending on who you ask, it may have even killed a certain ex-pro wrestler and Mr. Nanny star.
The image from the episode that’s become low-key iconic in just a matter of days is that of Trump in bed with Satan. While the scene tees up one of many jokes about Trump’s borderline microscopic junk, it also recreates the toxic dynamic between the Prince of Darkness and Saddam Hussein, as seen in...

Hulk Hogan, who passed away today at the age of 71, was never funny exactly. But as a talk-show guest in the ‘80s and '90s, the wrestling superstar was entertaining as heck.
Play
His massive size made mere mortals like Johnny Carson appear comically small, for starters. And Hogan was a master showman, flexing his pecs, threatening his rivals and croaking out slogans like, “Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!” Like Mr. T, his co-star in Rocky III, Hogan had a distinctive visual look that was custom-made for the MTV era.
When he co-hosted SNL with Mr. T, Hogan’s “Let Me Tell You Something, Brother!” delivery earned him laughs based on pure enthusiasm. So it’s not hard to understand why Hollywood producers looked at him — especially after Arnold Schwarzenegger scored with Twins and Kindergarten Cop — and thought, “This might be the next comedy superstar.”
Then again,...

Night of the Living Dead, the horror classic that birthed the modern zombie genre, is getting a reboot, and writer Latoya Morgan has now confirmed that the screenplay is complete. With rising filmmakerNikyatu Jusu attached to direct, the project is one of the most anticipated horror reimaginings in recent memory. Originally released in 1968 and directed by the legendary godfather of zombies, George A. Romero, Night of the Living Dead broke ground for its depiction of a zombie outbreak. Now, more than five decades later, this new sequel, which seeks to restart the franchise, promises to carry that legacy forward.

The beloved “Star Wars” sequel “The Empire Strikes Back” is set to open this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival on April 24, with director George Lucas presenting the film for its 45th anniversary.
“’The Empire Strikes Back’ is like ‘The Godfather Part II.’ Yes, technically, they’re sequels, the second movie in a series. But they are so much more,” TCM’s primetime anchor Ben Mankiewicz said in a statement. “The first ‘Star Wars’ picture in 1977 ignited a new era in Hollywood and turned a generation of young people into passionate movie fans for life. Then, somehow, three years later, along comes ‘Empire,’ which might even be better. It’s a stunning accomplishment and surely stands one of the great achievements in the history of film.”
Additional titles that will screen at this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival include “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” “The Lady Eve,” “Cinderella,” “Apocalypse Now,...

Today, the nonprofit Sundance Institute announced the 87 feature films and six episodic projects selected for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, with more announcements expected in the coming weeks. While the festival may be moving in 2027, for 2025, it will be out in full force in its traditional home of Park City, Utah.
This year’s lineup includes a number of returning names, including Ira Sachs, Amy Berg, Andrew Ahn, Justin Lin, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Cooper Raiff, Kahlil Joseph, Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady, David France, Jesse Short Bull, Ryan White, Sophie Hyde, Jesse Moss & Amanda McBaine, Meera Menon, and Clint Bentley. Prime Video's new apocalyptic zombie movie has become a streaming success. Amazon's streaming service has been consistently producing original movies since 2019, although they take on a variety of genres, they started making horror movies about a year in, including Black Box, The Lie, Nocturne, and Evil Eye. Since then, that roster has expanded significantly to include more movies, such as Bingo Hell, Black as Night, Madres, The Manor, Master, Goodnight Mommy, Nanny, and perhaps Prime Video's most popular horror movie, Totally Killer.
On the series side, one of Prime Video's most popular efforts is the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout, based on the Bethesda video game series of the same name, which has been renewed for a second season. Though some of its content could be categorized as post-apocalyptic, Prime Video has never directly dabbled in the zombie before. However, its first feature-length installment in the genre has recently seen an unexpected...

Nikyatu Jusu, the visionary behind the psychological horror film Nanny, is set to take the helm in a groundbreaking new adaptation of David Cronenberg's 1986 sci-fi horror classic The Fly for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment. The talented director has reportedly begun development on this new horror project, which is also being called The Fly.
The upcoming horror movie is not a remake. Instead, it's a new take on the 1986 sci-fi horror film and is set in the same universe. Jusu wrote the script and will direct the movie as well. In addition, Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are signed on to produce.
Unfortunately, plot details about this movie are being kept secret as of right now. However, we have high hopes that it'll have an interesting plot since Jusu wrote the script. The announcement of this film comes at the perfect time when body horror...

Back in 1986, David Cronenberg directed a remake of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 sci-fi horror classic The Fly (which was based on George Langelaan’s short story) – and the result is considered to be one of the best remakes of all time. 20th Century Fox, now the Disney subsidiary 20th Century Studios, has been wanting to replicate that success with another remake for a couple of decades now… but the project has never managed to escape from development hell. Cronenberg wanted to come back and make another Fly movie, but it fell apart over budgetary issues. Screenwriter Todd Lincoln wrote a remake of The Fly that he described as a “dark, twisted, grounded re- imagining… Part Val-Lewton, part J.G. Ballard, part Neal Stephenson with some Horror Manga touches.” The studio wasn’t into it. J.D. Dillard was attached to direct a new version of The Fly for years, then stepped away from it.

A surprise spinoff to David Cronenberg's 1986 horror classic The Fly is now in the works, with a new director having been revealed for the upcoming movie. A remake of the 1958 movie of the same name, The Fly is often regarded as one of Cronenberg's scariest movies, following scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) who, while testing a teleportation device, becomes infused with fly DNA. The movie received critical acclaim and was a box office success. However, its 1989 sequel, The Fly II, was critically panned.
Now, Deadline has confirmed that a spinoff to The Fly has been announced from 20th Century Studios, which will be written and directed by Nikyatu Jusu (Nanny). The movie will be also be produced by Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment, with specific plot details about what the film will entail currently under wraps. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
A new movie set in the same universe as David Cronenberg's '80s body-horror masterwork, The Fly, is in development.
Deadline reports that Nikyatu Jusu is set to write and direct the project for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment. The movie is not expected to be a reboot or a direct sequel, and there's no word on casting.
Jusu garnered acclaim for her work on 2022's Nanny, and also has a sequel to George A. Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead in the works with The Walking Dead‘s Latoya Morgan penning the script.
“The original version of Night of the Living Dead is still so resonant to this day,” said Jusu when the project was first announced. “Every era has the zombie that it needs and right now, zombies reflect the ways that humans treat each other and show us who is truly the monster.

Here's some *ahem* buzzy horror movie news for your Tuesday morning. David Cronenberg's seminal 1986 body horror masterpiece The Fly is set to be the basis for a seemingly Nia DaCosta's Candyman style, universe expanding spin-off at 20th Century Studios. Per Deadline's reporting, Nanny filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu is actively developing, well, The Fly, on which the in-demand rising name in horror will serve as both writer and director.
As Deadline are quick to note, whilst plot details for Jusu's films are being kept shtum at the moment, "sources stressed that it’s set in the universe of Cronenberg’s film, rather than a straightforward remake." Yes, it seems we're heading Into The Brundleverse! Now, how exactly Jusu's movie will tie in to Cronenberg's cult classic remains to be seen, but there's no shortage of possible routes to go down — especially in this modern age of increasingly radical, head spinning scientific experimentation.

David Cronenbergs The Fly is a bonafide body horror classic. The new film will not be a remake, despite sharing the same title, but instead an original film set in the same universe as Cronenbergs.
Per Deadline, American director Nikyatu Jusu has started development on The Fly, which she wrote and will direct for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment the studio behind the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. Nikyatus The Fly is based on Cronenbergs horror masterpiece, though the plot remains heavily under wraps. In a world of remakes and reboots, however, it is refreshing to hear that the project will simply be set in the same world as the original. The announcement comes in the heels of a body horror popularity resurgence, with the success of Coralie Fargeats The Substance which won at Cannes and has garnered a great deal of award buzz for star Demi Moore.

The Young and the Restless spoilers for Friday, November 1, prove that Victor doesn’t have the influence over his children he thinks — or wants — when Victoria ignores him to turn to Cole.
What Might Have Been
Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Cole (J. Eddie Peck) broke up decades ago. They were reunited this year when their previously presumed dead daughter, Eve, turned out to be Claire (Hayley Erin) — who kind of, sort of, tried to kill the entire Newman family. But they’ve all moved past that.
Victor (Eric Braeden) forgave Claire for trying to kill him, his wife, and his children. But he will never forgive Cole for being…Cole. Which is why he barked at Cole to stay away from his daughter. Cole heroically suppressed his giggles at the “threat” and went home to have sex with Victoria. She also laughed away her father’s “warning.” When Victoria makes a serious decision,...

Exclusive: Police Academy veteran Steve Guttenberg and Vacation‘s Christie Brinkley have boarded Michael W. Gray’s coming-of-age family comedy American Summer.
Shooting has begun in Northern New Jersey and will extend into mid-October. Gray is directing from a script he wrote with Jennifer B. White.
Pic follows Mikey (Guttenberg), now in his 60s, who vividly journeys back to his childhood during one of the best summers of his life when he met the girl of his dreams, Kelly, scored a spot on the travel
baseball team, worked his first job and began his growth out of boyhood — all in the sudden wake of his dad missing overseas on a military mission.
Logan Gray stars as Young Mikey and Mia Talerico (Disney’s Good Luck Charlie) stars as Young Kelly. Also starring are Dan Lauria, Cullen Moss, Erinn Ruth, Michael Cuomo (Nanny), Ellen Toland (Inside the Rain), Stephen Krahel, former baseball stars Lee Mazzilli and Luis Sojo, plus newcomers Callie Reese (What Breaks the Ice), Cash Chisum, Jaba Keh, Carter J Thomas, Max Malas, Maximus Virgili, Chance Stout, and Noodle (the family puppy who saves the day).
“American Summer is a tale for a multi-generational audience to enjoy together. I look forward to sharing the film with the world as I want to bring people together to laugh and feel in their own way,” said Gray.
“I’m excited to be working on such a feel-good movie,” Guttenberg said. “The story requires the creative team to put together a narrative that is not only universal, but unique in its own style. American Summer has the potential to bring generations together, and that’s what audiences ask for in a great family film.”
Gray (A Birder’s Guide to Everything Jamie Marks Is Dead) and Michael Cuomo are producing. Guttenberg, Brinkley, Brian Dubin and Stephen Krahel are EPs. Josh Folan and Danny Ward are co-producers.
American Summer is a co-production of Relentless Filmz (Gray) and Brooklyn Owl Pictures (Cuomo). Gray is repped by Ramo Law. Guttenberg is repped by Vault Entertainment and CAA. Brinkley is repped by Artist Brand Alliance and Untitled Entertainment.

While at first, this may seem terrible for Kyle and her future, it actually maybe it’s saving grace.
Claire made it abundantly clear that she did not want to pursue a romantic relationship with Kyle while she was a nanny to Harrison.
It wouldn’t feel right. Now, however, if she has to leave her job as Harrison’s nanny this would free up a lot of room for their relationship, which many fans would be excited about.

Plot: When Sophie’s high school choir is selected for an Italian tour culminating in a performance for the Pope in Vatican City, JJ sees this as an opportunity to bond with his new stepdaughter, so he volunteers to help chaperone the group through the Venetian canals, across Florence’s renowned bridges and into Rome’s most historic sites. Instead he finds that he and Sophie have become unwitting pawns in a terrorist plot that could end the world as we know it.
Review: My Spy originally debuted at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic after being pulled from release in August 2019. With mediocre reviews, the Dave Bautista-led action-comedy was solid family entertainment when audiences sorely needed new things to watch. Four years later, Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman have reunited for a sequel that is bigger and better than the original but still nowhere near as good as it should be.
