Wind Princess

I am genuinely impressed by the quality of this not-for-profit, fan-made film. While certain aspects might warrant critique if this were a major Hollywood production, in this context, I can only express the highest admiration for the team that brought this adaptation of Nausicaä to life. This short film demonstrates that it is entirely possible to transform a beloved 40-year-old manga and anime into a compelling live-action production without sacrificing the distinctive charm of the original graphic novel. The film skillfully captures Miyazaki's unique fantasy world, supported by impressive visual effects made possible through modern technology. Simultaneously, the occasional use of traditional, practical effects evokes the atmosphere of iconic fantasy films such as The NeverEnding Story. If this team-or another-were to develop a full-length live-action version of Nausicaä in the same style, I would gladly watch it.

It wasn't entirely recorded in a garage, but the feeling is there. It's clearly a crude collage of scenes made over the years because they can't afford visual effects and clearly have no experience with it, the video editing, if we can call it that, is atrocious, it's a rudimentary attempt to reproduce a scene from an animated film from Studios Ghibli which has countless fans all over the planet and these fans are so much hunger to see anything (literally anything) related to Ghibli that they put a blind eye on it.

To be less picky, some props are above "student level", so to speak, but they are minimal, light years away from the requirements for a full length production, which is the "dream" of director who are using that "hunger of fans" to collect money for it.

This is by no means a "blockbuster," but it doesn't have to be. This not-for-profit fan film was meant to inspire creators by celebrating Miyazaki and showing how much can be done with virtually no budget and a wellspring of passion.

The cinematography alone ought to demonstrate the purpose behind this film. This is nothing less than a love letter to one of the greatest storytellers of the current age.

Chris Tex managed to bring this decades old story to life and I look forward to seeing how this crew's talents grow.
