Yep, the first 2 episodes are quitre mediocre, especially if you're not into typical teen dramas, as they mostly serve building up characters, but the series quickly picks up pace. It is in episode 3 when the show truly finds its way, and episodes 4-6 are just really, really good in showing the naivity of teen rebellion.
Keep in mind, however, that this show is NOT similar to the movie from 2008 or the book. It is just loosely based, and tells much more about naive idealism than about left-wing extremism. In fact, I'd say the show is more critical of the far-right than left wing.
Give this series another chance, because it truly does pick up and deserves a season 2.

Having loved the Third Wave novel, I was really excited for this show. Unfortunately, it fell flat. I couldn't tell if the voices were dubbed or if the audio didn't consistently match the video, which was distracting as I was trying to figure this out. I couldn't connect with the characters. They were too extreme stereotypes to feel real.
...and you'll have to watch all 6 episodes to get it. (S1) You should not compare it to "Die Welle" or any other movies following a similar theme (the experiment with totalitarianism), because that is simply not the point (until now, at least).
This is a well scripted and well paced story about youth anger, and what will happen if you push it too far.. The main characters are quite believable (I'm from germany, like the series, and these kids could be real for sure - your mileage may vary). The appearance of a far right german party (they only changed the name) mirrors actual political events, and is a trigger, but the story is not reduced to "far left against far right".
The cast is very good, especially the leads. They put only 6 episodes into season 1, which makes the story quite compact, and also managed to put in quite a lot of development of the main characters, which is very pleasing.
I'd be very happy to watch another season.

Typical teen show with a bad boy and a rich girl that we're supposed to feel sorry for, even though she has a loving family, rides a moped to school, and takes tennis lessons.
The only difference is that this bad boy thinks he's Tyler Durden and wants to incite some chaos to disrupt capitalism.
This show is completely out of touch reality.

About halfway through the first episode, I was so overcome with how corny this show is that I checked IMDB to see if it gets any better. Sure enough, first review I see says to stick with it to the end, it gets better and is worth it.
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Even if you like the politics of this show, it is so corny and on the nose it is unbearable. There is no subtly, no nuance, just absolutely cheesy politics throughout. I thought at one point they may introduce some nuance (hey these are real people and businesses we're hurting), but no, they run right back to the cornball politics.
I hope that it is better if you are a native German speaker, but i really regret wasting my time on this. I've enjoyed other German series in the past so I don't think that is it.
