Boring teen drama pretending to be fight club
Typical teen show with a bad boy and a rich girl that we're supposed to feel sorry for, even though she has a loving family, rides a moped to school, and takes tennis lessons.
The only difference is that this bad boy thinks he's Tyler Durden and wants to incite some chaos to disrupt capitalism.
This show is completely out of touch reality.

Guys, watch it till the end. It is worth it.
Yep, the first 2 episodes are quitre mediocre, especially if you're not into typical teen dramas, as they mostly serve building up characters, but the series quickly picks up pace. It is in episode 3 when the show truly finds its way, and episodes 4-6 are just really, really good in showing the naivity of teen rebellion.
Keep in mind, however, that this show is NOT similar to the movie from 2008 or the book. It is just loosely based, and tells much more about naive idealism than about left-wing extremism. In fact, I'd say the show is more critical of the far-right than left wing.
Give this series another chance, because it truly does pick up and deserves a season 2.

Doesn't Suffer The Normal Teen Drama Treatment
I really enjoyed this show. Probably aimed at a teen audience, given the age of the majority of the cast, but I found none of the dumbing down, over-simplification, or straight out patronising prevalent in that genre.
It's a short enough show - six episodes - to easily watch back-to-back, which I did with a short overnight break halfway through ... more like a long film than a series, and not "too long".
One very minor thing, which I didn't even twig until halfway through the last episode, and isn't a complaint just an observation: There are quite a few scenes with newspaper, or more often online text, articles in the background. (Probably weirdly) I like to freeze frame and read these articles when I'm really into what I'm watching. It's a German show, presented in German, so I had to rely on subtitles to understand the dialogue. It took me a long, long time to realise that all the articles were in English. I haven't known any German teens for a very long time but I'm fairly sure, gifted as many of them are in my own mother tongue, they'd be more likely to go for things written in their own language. (BTW, for anyone reading this before watching the show, the articles don't add anything of import, so you're not missing out if you don't ape my own eccentricity.)

Good production, bad story. GERMAN VIEWER
So first of all. ,Wir sind die Welle' is not really to compare with the movie ,Die Welle'. This series is about making difference and to fight against everything wrong in this world.
I personally, as a german citizen, am not a fan of the german movie industry. But after I saw ,Dark' on Netflix, everything changed. Because of ,Dark's good quality in production, I gave this series a try. And I must say, I'm impressed. The production quality on this thing... unbelievable. 4K, good scenery, great lightning, good actors and I did not cringe while watching. This is extremely good for german quality. The music/sounds were very well picked as well.
Well why did I give this series only 5/10? It's because of the story. First of all: I really hoped to see a series that extends the movie, which is not the case. The story in the series is just bad, really bad. The idea behind it is good, but the implementation is just bad. So clumpy and not logical sometimes. I really can't describe it. It was just bad, and thats very unfortunate, because the production team did so good.
This leads me to another point: Because of the bad story, this series did not get any fame and no viewers at all. This is also bad, because I'm 100% certain that there will be no second season. And I think many viewers will see this as a waste of time, because season one has an open ending (which makes sense because the director wanted to force a second season).
I think it was a nice experiment, very impressed with the protagonist as an actor, he did very well and the production on this is insane, but the story is not to be spoken about. I personally liked watching the series and I would watch the second season as well I think, if there were going to be one.

Actually, this is NOT a "left extremism" version of "Die Welle"...
...and you'll have to watch all 6 episodes to get it. (S1) You should not compare it to "Die Welle" or any other movies following a similar theme (the experiment with totalitarianism), because that is simply not the point (until now, at least).
This is a well scripted and well paced story about youth anger, and what will happen if you push it too far.. The main characters are quite believable (I'm from germany, like the series, and these kids could be real for sure - your mileage may vary). The appearance of a far right german party (they only changed the name) mirrors actual political events, and is a trigger, but the story is not reduced to "far left against far right".
The cast is very good, especially the leads. They put only 6 episodes into season 1, which makes the story quite compact, and also managed to put in quite a lot of development of the main characters, which is very pleasing.
I'd be very happy to watch another season.
