Meta prom.

After seeing the superb Synonymous With 2021-also reviewed) I decided to continue viewing the short film line-up at the Soho Horror Film Festival, by discovering how meta things can get.

Ruining Artie's walk towards the prom court nomination stage with a tribute to Carrie (1976), director Sydne Horton & cinematographer Mitchell Kerby run Artie's transgender experience, in parallel to the physical metamorphosis that is unleashed from the bullying Artie suffers, with Horton splashing the prom stage with dripping neon reds and a live-wire score by Thomas J. Peters,being sprayed across the screen in slick panning shots as Artie takes the bullies down.

Away from the horror of the prom, the screenplay by Savannah Ward displays a thoughtfulness in capturing the Horror unleashed from the bullying,which leaves Artie feeling like a monster,who is not able to confide in anyone the insecurities Artie holds under the prom lights.
