This is probably one of the best spin offs I've seen of anything in a long time. It did everything a good spinoff should, it stayed true to the original source material, by truthfully putting a character we know well into a new situation. It felt like an episode of Adventure Time, which I think is the most important bit. It's a very charming continuation, with a lot going for it. The story didn't feel forced, or like a cash grab, it was genuine, and exciting. A good start to the series, and a promising look for what is to come.
Adventure Time is one of best animated shows ever made on Cartoon Network and on HBO Max, Adventure Time: Distant Lands finally came. First special was only focused on BMO going through a sci-fi adventure with some new friends and it was pretty neat. The animation is really good, the writing is perfect and the lighting is rather great. Not to mention some additional animation. I can easily say that Adventure Time: Distant Land is one of the cartoons that you should be watching and I can't wait for more. I give this show an 9.5/10

Honestly I was extremely pleasantly surprised by this first episode of "Distant Lands", featuring and named after one of the most beloved characters from the original series, the endlessly lovable BMO, and this episode certainly is a whirlwind from start to finish that never stops giving, a rollercoaster of emotions and just what we needed to see for a first dive back into the world of Adventure Time.
Personally I thought they really ticked pretty much all the boxes for what I would expect and want from a spin off - there were a lot of voices and characters (some more obvious than others) from the original, there were actually lots of references to the original series from characters to plot points and especially some of the new info dropped about the universe of AT which we never got in the original. There really were some quite big reveals and a fair few other references that are more mysterious in nature, as well as some that only megafans will catch. I wasn't particularly expecting this spin off to expand too much on the original universe, you never really know how much a team wants to touch anything surrounding the source material, especially with a show as fondly remembered as "Adventure Time", so this was a nice surprise for me and I really hope they continue this trend in the other three episodes as I have rarely been so invested in the lore and world building around a show so much as Adventure Time.
The hour long format is great for the Adventure Time writers and allows a story to be built and developed a bit more easily, or perhaps deliberately, than in the original series, and although I'm only giving this a 9 right now I can see that changing when the other 3 parts have been released, if they are all of this quality I would be happy to revise that to a 10 and of course I very much hope that's the case. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who liked the original show, I fail to see how you could be a big fan of Adventure Time and not enjoy this spin off, if you haven't seen it yet, what are you doing?! Go watch it NOW!!

After almost two years of waiting after the end of Adventure Time, its sequel Distant Lands arrives. A continuation that awaited her with very high expectations, and after having seen her first special, that of Bmo, I can only say bravo to those of the staff of the series for having done such a masterpiece. The very fluid animation that it has, the new characters, the new plot that awaits, which in addition made me stay at certain moments with my mouth open because of how good it was, and best of all, it is enjoyed taking into account that each mini chapter lasts 1 hour, and with that I can only say thank you.
Adventure Time I think it has proven to position itself as one of the best cartoons ever created.

So sick of these "Real Fans". Seems like every show's got them, and they all suck. Just because you love something, doesn't mean it belongs to you, or you're somehow more "real" of a fan. These "Real Fans" always think any changes made to their beloved show are an abomination. Hey Real Adventure Time Fan, you know that Fin and Jake story ended right? It was 10 seasons long and wonderful the entire time, up to and including the ending. This is a new story and it's different. Different can be good, and this is good so far. To everyone else, if you liked Adventure Time and aren't an insufferable tool, you'll probably like this. Give it a shot.

I do love the clown claiming to be a "real fan" and then dissed this as "garbage".
they must lead a sad, sad life huffing their own gas hoping to be king of all fans.
sorry, clown, but this rules! Adventure Time has thousands of stories left to tell, and just because they ARE telling more stories doesn't mean it's a corporate cash grab.
grab some candy and sit down and DIG IT.

This "spin off"- mini series is just delightful. The animation is better than ever. So much detail and the style is so tasty. I was surprised how easily i forgot the main characters from the original series. Y5 and Olive is both adorable and the chemistry between everyone is good.
Negative: Why just 3 episodes?? They could divide the length into normal Adventure Time- running time episodes so you could have at least 6 episodes to look forward to. When something this good comes along why just tease us like this? Give us more, please!

Well like I said this was the attempt of a type of reboot in a way but after watching it obviously the animation is still fine like the original and the acting is fine as well the story lines are interesting but some are kind of boring no offense, definitely doesn't hold up as well as the actual original tho, but still decent..was kinda hoping to see more of Finn and Jake but not so much.

The original adventure time series was incredible and filled with comedy and emotion that I thoroughly enjoyed. This mini series completely lacks both. The jokes are stale and any emotional aspect seems pretty forced. I think it would have been much better if they had showed older Finn and his adveo with Jake's granddaughter instead of highlighting the lives of side characters that I am much less emotionally invested in. Either way, the only joy I got out of it was seeing the characters again, even if it seemed like their personalities were completely different than the original.

The setting is totally different, the characters are mostly new, to be sure, but the sometimes chaotic flow to the narrative and the band of non-kidnappers remains. That's what made the original series and spin-off so unique. And yet, Adventure Time: Distant Lands - BMO is also more streamlined, a little bit smaller, as it does not have the advantage of exploring its mythology over dozens of episodes like its predecessor.
The little saga includes a reasonable amount of knowledge and characters at that time of execution. We met the young teenage scientist rabbit Y4 who makes observations on a failed space station called 'The Drift'.
The problem is when you feel a little rushed when it comes to stories and development of relatively new characters. There is simply no time for fans to develop an emotional and deep attachment to these characters when their lives are overturned, we feel something strongly in one way or another. Fortunately, BMO acts as an emotional anchor in this case. If this freelancer had simply started following these new characters, he would have felt derived, a pale imitation of what made the original Adventure Time so good. For both the characters in this special and the viewers at home, BMO is here to save your day.

Adventure Time and Distant Lands are so special to me. I grew attached to AT and cried after the series ended. When Distant Lands was announced, I was so thrilled and it did not disappoint. I loved every single episode. My favorite by far was Together Again. I cry every time I watch it. Beautiful show. Will miss it tremendously.

Wow. Made me cry. The best way to pick up on a story that ended perfectly. Goes deeper into the characters lives and ate rich with world building and artistic style as well as wonderfull story lines.

'Adventure Time: Distand Lands' is a continuation of the original 'Adventure Time' series. It does not butcher or cheapen the previous series or characters in any way, and is still as enjoyable. If you were a fan of the show, you will definitely enjoy these special episodes.

So, remember how we ended the series? Well this is for all those greedy fans who want more because readying the comics was too boring and no one is gonna touch a graphic novel with a ten foot pole.
So we find ourselves in whatever, doing anything to kill time. Does it build up to something? Nah!
I may be too cynical about this cartoon but I honestly got into it late in the series after a long pause and i realized that the story was lost. It was 100% about the characters. After watching this spin-off I actually wondered why I was watching it expecting a story when it is actually about empowering characters!? And what is so entertaining about political and social messages mixed in cartoons meant to entertain?! Do you want relationship advice? I don't think this is the place for that when your characters never change or grow up. Do I need to know how changing my name makes me a different person instead of a giant hypocrite? Then maybe this is not the place for you.
Here is what is bothering me and I hope I don't annoy people. This series cast the story in the wind and decided to follow a strict character study by using unrealistic characters in unrealistic circumstances to get in a political or socio-economic message. It's basically a platform for fan fiction, character studies and small stories.

And unfortunately it's mainly misses.
The 1st, 2nd and 4th episode all had very poor writing, irritatingly clichéd characters, and a completely un-adventure-time-like feel.
What makes it even more frustrating is that al 3 episodes could have worked really well if the writing was more adequate, as focusing on 1-2 main characters an episode was a realy good choice.
Those characters, though, were dumbed down to the point that it feels like character development from the entire show was deleted into an uninspired mush so it could have a forced happy ending.
After just finishing the main show, it almost felt insulting to what the show has accomplished.
These might actually be my top 3 worst episodes of the ENTIRE series!
Ep1: 5/10, ep2: 4/10, ep4: 5/10
Then there's episode 3... which is one of the best in the entire series!
The difference in everything from writing to worldbuilding, to tying up loose ends from the show is incredible!
As it focuses on Finn and Jake, it's also the only episode that's more close the the main series, so I'm very thankful they at least nailed this most important episode in a near-perfect manner.
9,6/10 is what I would give it as well.
All in all it's mostly an uninspired mess, and I'd recommend to only watch the 3rd episode (but if you're as invested into the Adventure Time world as you should, I bet you'll watch them anyway) Just be prepared for mediocrity.

This was so cool to see. I grew up with Adventure Time, Regular Show, Ninjago, Clone Wars, and tons of other shows old and new. As a kid I adored Adventure Time. I watched regularly and when I found out they were making a new Adventure Time series, I was so excited! Then I started watching it, and while I don't think its better than the original show, I think it is still a great continuation. And I think they should do this with more shows.

I used to love watching AT after school and I truly loved the series, but with time I lost track of my favorite series , until today, and all I can say is that I simply love this. It´s a wonderful spin off that made my heart warm for everything I loved about Adventure Time.
