I stumbled across the trailer to this on my friend's Facebook page. The trailer was funny and the rental was only $4 so I decided to rent it. Reboot Camp was not what I expected. It's a mockumentary. I DO NOT like mockumentaries. Had I read the post after watching the trailer, I would've known and would not have rented it. That being said, it was not bad at all. I found myself laughing a lot. Ed Begley Jr. From Bless This Mess and Lindsey Shaw from Pretty Little Liars really stood out. Begley's deadpan face cracked me up every time he was on the screen and Shaw's portrayal of ditzy Maisey was spot on. I give this movie 7 1/2 stars because I just don't like mockumentaries but there are no half stars so I'm rounding up to 8. There are enough trolls out there giving movies 1 star for no reason at all.
It explains all human weakness via this movie. It's quite funny to watch indeed. Thought it's a documentary but it's not. But wonder how the people in the movie is actor or real, very suspicious.
Clever premise, well acted, with some very funny moments. There are a few interesting cameos - Ja Rule, Eric Roberts, and Chaz Bono who are all really fun! However, the story was a little slow and it took a little too long to get from funny moment to funny moment. I think this would work really well as a sitcom series rather than a full length feature film. Break it up into 30 minute episodes with each episode focusing on one character's story There are many quirky characters here and a lot of interesting relationships that could be further developed and would sustain a season of sitcom episodes. It was a bit draggy as a feature film, but I recommend repackaging it and redeveloping it as a sitcom series on Netflix or Hulu.
All you need to start a cult is a foreign accent, a funky wardrobe and a VJJ slide. Oh and a bunch of gullible followers to peddle your BS to. Over the top at moments but I'm a big david Koechner fan so anything with him is a watch. Here he riffs at self help and finds spiritual growth through cursing. OK dude whatever works for ya. The one thing that bugged me were the reality stars. Obnoxious. But I guess that's par for the course..or curse.
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a group" pretty much describes it all. I know a lot of people that would participate in the activities in this movie, even the most outrageous ones. My ex used to attend Tony Robbins seminars, amongst others, when he was feeling lost. I can't tell you how much he spent on self help books and seminars before he was able to pull himself together. And it wasn't because of the seminars/classes. He got his sh-t together because he ran out of money and had no choice. Some of the characters you see in this movie will remind you of people you know in real life. Entertaining!
