A tempting topic that proposes to cover a notorious individual and a brutal portion of history. But at the first moment of dialogue the bubble of potential is brutally burst by a sequence of dreadfully wooden acting. You'd think that perhaps this is an attempt to ironically introduce Forrest's origin backstory as a sort of ridiculous made up fable. But this drivel is not in fact a clever device but the pinnacle of the directors ambition for the rest of the film! It's as if the actors are blind reading the script on a first take.
