Some nights I feel like burning

The story was good and successfully showcased the 'other side' of Manila at night. I immediately understood the writer/director's perspective, which was a strong point. However, the pacing and direction felt off in the middle, particularly when the characters went to Ge's province. That's where the plot started to lose focus, and I found myself a bit disconnected. Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either-it was just okay. I wish the plot had been more humanized and executed with more depth.

Decent portrayal of some Manila young male hustlers

At a bus terminal distressed teenager Zion asks Uno to pass a note to someone he can't face in person. 2 years later, Uno is the leader of a group of 4 young male street hustlers, and meets Zion again, both hired by a client for a threesome. Tragedy strikes when Ge, one of the 4, dies of a client-supplied drug overdose, and his dying wish was to "go home". By taxi, jeep (private mini-bus), and inter-city bus, they lug Ge's body back to his home village.

Along the way, it is revealed that Zion comes from a powerful and rich family. While earlier he had rejected the request of his lover to run away with him, Zion himself has become a runaway, and exploring his body in an unhealthy way. However, Ge's going home only reminds the group that they mostly just have each other, as I am reminded of the verse "He is despised and rejected of men" (Isaiah 53:3 / Handel's Messiah).

We see Manila's vibrant street life and bright malls, in contrast to the gang's dark circumstances. It is a difficult time post-covid, and the backstories of the other 3 are not revealed. The threesome scene seems a bit forced, inserted just in order to reunite Uno and Zion. I also don't quite get the point of the fire ceremony in the plot.

    Had the potential

I was looking forward to and wanted to love this film because the premise was really promising (love the "colors" as well from the posters and trailers), but there were too many missed opportunities for this to be a film that I can rate higher.

The long shots were really impressive, but it just did not work for me for what I felt the film wanted to relay to the audience.

The acting had so much potential, but something just made it not work out overall.

There were also a number of "discontinuities" from one scene to another.

    Hoping there's a director's cut? :-(
