At it's heart, The "Thing About Harry" is a remake of the classic movie "When Harry Met Sally" but with two gay men. That's not a bad thing, but it's very similar to the original film in many ways. The "will they or won't they" dynamic was played out way too long for my taste and some of the character development lacked. Otherwise, it was a sweet movie with a terrific message. I mean we're allowed to have somewhat unbelievable rom-coms too, right? I enjoyed watching this movie and recommend it to others. Kudos to Freeform for making this movie. Let's hope more follow.
It's the type of film id describe as warm, fuzzy and sweet, and the little goth punk emo kid in me hates myself for enjoying it. I'm not a fan of romantic comedies because so often they are about as creative as cooperate holiday cards. This one was different partly because the two leads work so well together in camera and the supporting characters actually contribute to the plot line, unlike most romantic comedies where the supporting actors are less supporting are more so talking extras. The one complaint I do have is that it jumps into the future sometimes it's a couple days, and sometimes a couple months and sometimes a year or more. So you hear a bit about their past before the movie starts and they are in college and by the end of the movie they are probably around 30 and could still pass for a 16 year old. I understand some people look young until they go grey but it is just ridiculous that this love story takes over a decade to play out.
I really wanted to love this movie. As a gay man I cling to any quality lgbtq films especially when they are mainstream. I was blessed with Love, Simon and since that was a minor hit I was expecting a lot more movies to come out. So this option from freeform is appreciated and it's cute but it's very by the numbers and the leads don't have the best chemistry. That being said it's about a guy named Sam who runs into Harry sporadically over the years. They have a little bit of a love connection and eventually, well you know. It's all fairly formulaic but I hope it's successful and opens the door to better films.

All throughout my childhood i always enjoyed watching romantic comedies with my mother and sister... i am sure you know the ones i'm talking about, from 27 Dresses to The Proposal, i have probably watched them all more times than i can possibly count. although i enjoyed watching them, i would constantly find myself looking and yearning for something that i could enjoy but also connect and relate to in ways all my straight friends did. I always wondered what if there was some LGBT representation, a queer Rom-Com? well i can proudly say i now understand that connect i constantly imagined of seeing on screen. This film was an pleasant surprise that i would recommend watching if you want an queer twist on a classic romantic film. I'm definitely not saying this is the greatest film ever... but i am saying its refreshing and beautiful story. i would certainly watch this film again. great plot and narrative kept me invested and engaged through the entire film.
6/10 - just what you'd expect from a rom-com TV movie - cheesy, cute storylines with some iffy acting (I mean Karamo needs to never "act"again) - but I really didn't care for the time skips throughout the movie
