Plot

Olokiki Oru: The Midnight Sensation

Edit

Summaries

  • After the fall of the Oyo Empire and its becoming a British protectorate in 1888, two rival armed robbers strikes fear on several Yoruba towns in their fight for dominance, wealth and the heart of a fearless, beautiful Princess.

Synopsis

  • AYERO (Ibrahim Chatta) is a fearless armed robber who was tricked into robbing a town no man alive can rob, Asinde, by his gang leader who are dying to have the bootie from the night's raid to themselves. He is killed and buried, but resurrected same night because of the voodoo in his body, Apaji (a Yoruba voodoo that wakes the dead). However, he soon learned that it was the Witches that let him die by the gun of the hunter, AGABA (Tunde Ola Yusuf), who shot him, because he used to call himself o gboju le ogun so omo aje ni iko (the one whose voodoo gives him so much confidence as much as letting him knock a witch's child on the head). After pleading forgiveness, he is fortified, made immortal and given one of the Witches' name 'Olokiki Oru [the Midnight Sensation]', for it is believed by many that Witches roam in majesty at midnight.

The mention of AKALA (Saheed Osupa) another Yoruba armed robber several towns away, strikes fear in many. He is a ruthless warrior with charms and his heart only softens for the Princess, Iyunnade (Tobi Ojediran), who has been betrothed to him by the King (Taiwo Hassan) since she was a teenager and is the reason he had swore to protect his town with his life and that he would never rob it. He loves her so much that he had to kill the youngman, Olalere (Lateef Adedimeji), who she wanted to elope with, because she wants someone of her age.

As far back as before the Old Oyo Empire blossomed circa 1160, Yorubas are a people who left their goods out in the open and put stones to indicate how much it is sold for and has never had their wares stolen by armed robbers except slave marauders until Akala and Ayero began to cause havoc around 1889. Akala has been the superstar, but when Olokiki Oru [the Midnight Sensation] start to plunder towns, he gets their before Akala's men and thus keeps the once undisputed champion ravaged.

Few months after Akala is trying to find ways to stop Olokiki Oru from kicking him to the curbs, he learns this same newbie had come to take his bride, Iyunnade, on the eve of their marriage and had taken her to his home. The battle line is finally drawn -- Iyunnade is the last straw. Olokiki Oru, who has been made immortal by the Witches, has to die.

Akala believe there is always a way to make the impossible possible, so he swear to never stop until he puts Olokiki Oru's lifeless body in the ground.
