This is the first animated project of the Chipmunks franchise without the involvement of its creator Ross Bagdasarian Sr. as the legacy would be continued by his son Ross Bagdasarian Jr. When his son revived the chipmunks franchise, he would provide the voices of Alvin, Simon, and David Seville with the exception of Theodore who would be voiced by Janice Karman.
The first time one of the three chipmunks are voiced by an actress instead of a male actor.
In the special, Frank Welker provides the voice of Santa Claus. He would later voice a different version of Santa in Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas (1992).
