I am a Pete Davidson fan. He is a great storyteller. There were a few funny stories, but man was it hard to get through the awkward parts. It wasn't his best. It was all around awkward.
Pete's style of comedy is very awkward, I find it very unfair that people are criticizing the special for being awkward. If you watch SNL Pete will occasionally join Collin Jost and Micheal Che on weekend update and deliver his awkward take on something and it's just funny. Pete easily replicated that to create something that I found to be quite enjoyable.
I'm no stranger to dark / f'ed up humour and definitely doesn't offensive or off-putting in that regard, but its the sloppy delivery and awkward pauses that makes this really hard to get through.
It's like he's high (and not the good kind) throughout the show and looses hes train of thought multiple times, he even starts a joke at one point then starts to explain something completely different and never circles back to finish the joke. And I feel bad cus this guy is usually funny and gets too much flak from haters
I laughed or at least chuckled for most of the show. Fair warning, depending on how broad your sense of humor is, some jokes may upset you. It wasn't the best stand up but what he did really well is tell his side of the story. It felt real, honest and sincere.
I like Pete on SNL, but I can see why he says they only put him in small doses. He's not funny for 45 minutes. His delivery doesn't land. Every fifth word is "um" "uh" "like" "whatever". He also appears to have ADD or something because he'll begin telling the set up for a joke, get distracted and talk about something else, then maybe come back five minutes to the joke he set up, but without any payoff. I think the audience laughs at Pete the celebrity, not Pete the stand-up. If he wasn't famous, nobody would think he was funny.
