    Character study of boring people

GF and BF get lost in the woods. They hallucinate things. Their phones don't work, duh. Maybe something supernatural is happening?

Bring out the Fear focuses almost entirely on its two characters, probably for budget reasons, and there's nothing wrong with that; when you have limitations, it's smart to build your film around them. But if the bulk of your film is about two characters and their interactions, at least one of them has to be likable. BotF's characters are not; worse, they're *bland*, not even interestingly unlikable.

Unfortunately, it is very hard to care what happens in BotF. Yes, something creepy is happening, but what's it matter? It's okay with me if these people die, and it's okay if they don't; they seem about as interesting as an overheard phone conversation on public transit. Maybe they're too realistic.

Sound/score are good though. And they do what they can with a clearly very limited budget, at least in terms of filming. It's just that they forgot to give us a reason to care about anybody in the film.

Not that bad but misses cohesion

This movie is best be described as a surrealistic thriller. It's about a couple going into the woods to spent time together. To fix their broken relationship.

Metaphorically it's about a woman struggling with patriarchal and cultural totalitarianism. But also where does this totalitarian boundaries start and end?

That is where the movie begins to fall apart. First there is no chemistry between the actors. So it becomes hard to find a red line that keeps the movie together. Why should I spent time with a low budget movie that has no reflective images and scenes of mentioned topic.

So at the end we are still where we were at the start. Still being followed by one of the most cultural way of oppression. But the woman has not evolved.

Watch Don't worry darling from Olivia Wilde. Ten times better movie where the woman breaks free and becomes a sovereign being.

Creepy Scenes, But More Explanation Needed

I thought it was pretty good overall, but I think more explanation would have been a LOT better. The acting was okay, and I thought the setting looked really great, with some nice CREEPY, and tense scenes. I love supernatural horror, and the old myths.

Like I think a changeling was trying to leave the woods with Rosie? But I got that from Irish woods, and knowing some myths changelings can be made from wood.

Like even if the characters argued about the idea, and that being ridiculous. Would have filled us in a little bit more about what is happening.

I get that some scenes are to make us question what is really real, and what is not. But I feel there could have been a better balance.

    Into the woods

No pun intended - not sure what you might think of this. Relationship movies with horror elements ... add to that a location that is not the easiest. And then two characters whom you may not really feel close to. They have their issues, but do we care? I reckon you do not have to - just remember this is a low budget movie.

The movie has some really solid scenes - where as a viewer you are being reeled in (if you watch the whole thing open minded of course). It also has scenes that will feel like a let down for sure. The acting is ok overall, same goes for dialog. Cinematography works too throughout. I understand that technically most movies have improved anyway - still I have seen worse. It may not be able to always deliver on its premise/title but often enough - be afraid then.
