Elizabeth Murray: I want the paint to make some energy happen and to keep you focused on the space. That's kind of how I think of using the paint, in such an impasto way. It makes sense to me to do it that way. But it does also have a kind of beauty that I really, really enjoy and there are many layers of paint because I do also a lot of scraping. It's that, you know the painting is really how you feel about your body too. Just building it and structuring it. And it's the substance that really is quite physical. I find it hard to avoid the paintings being very physical.
