The film premiered at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2021 before having its commercial premiere in Norway on September 17.
The film was shot in 2019, in both Germany (Cologne and surroundings, Solingen and Duisburg) and Canada (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario), as shown in the ending credits.
The film is an adaptation of Lars Saabye Christensen's 2012 novel Sluk.
Pål Sverre Hagen (who plays the protagonist Frank Farelli) is an acclaimed Norwegian screen and stage actor. He also starred in the role of archaeologist Sigurd Svendsen in Ragnarok (2013).
Although the film is set in the United States, the actors are all Norwegian, Swedish and Canadian.
