I read every review. I feel like they are all correct in what they pick out about what works and what utterly fails in this series. Where I digress is in the scoring. The show is cringey, hack, contrived, it lacks the refined delivery of a standup special, or the spontaneity of a podcast and there is no narrative through line. There are silly, sometimes revealing bits, that occasionally give the viewer pause. Overall, it feels thrown together, a tad exploitative (as most reality tv tends to). Potential was there, and sometimes you see glimpses of what it could have been, but altogether it's a not-so-near miss. I suppose how much you hate it depends on how much you like the podcast circuit regulars. If I could give half stars, it would be a 6.5/10.
First episode is really the only one worth watching. I laughed sooo hard at Joey, Tom and Bert. You can tell they are true friends and it shows through their flow together. The other episodes were okay. Some of it felt clustered and forced. After that first episode I had high hopes but the rest just didn't pan out, for me.
As a huge fan of 2 Bears 1 Cave, I could not get past the first episode. If you know Bert from the podcasts, you know right off the bat that's a fake show. As soon as he facetimed with his wife, you could see the b.s in the air.
I'm not even sure what this show is supposed to be. Bert reveals its basically a scripted reality show but it has no substance. I thought the guest calling the Romanian lady a white bi*** over and over again was very cringe and not funny at all. The first episode with Joey and Tom make it seem like the rest will be fun but it immediately falls off after that. I stopped after they're laying on the floor laughing about nothing.
When a show's opening scene begins with Tommy Buns and Coco Diaz, you know it's going to be good. I like this show more than his stand up and is a nice break from stuff like Hurt Bert, etc. It's good for laughs and a lot more. It won't answer the question of 'Why is Burnt Chrysler so fat?' but it will keep you entertained.
