The Third Film in the "Cat Girls Gamblers" Trilogy

This film essentially follows its predecessor with the Yakuza gambler by the name of "Yukiko Eguichi" (Yumiko Nogawa) having left Tokyo and coming back to her old home town to try to make a new life for herself. While on the train she witnesses one of the passengers being pickpocketed and alerts him to this fact resulting in the thief being apprehended and a valuable document being returned to its rightful owner. Upon arriving at her destination, however, she is taken by force to the leader of a powerful Yakuza clan who is extremely upset with her interference. Fortunately, upon having her true identity being revealed she is released in the hope that she will become a member of their clan. Unfortunately for them, she decides otherwise and joins a rival group known as the Gunji clan which is in bad need of her skills-and this creates all kinds of problems for those wishing to destroy them. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this third film in the "Cat Girls Gamblers" trilogy turned out to be better that its immediate predecessor and just as good as the first film in the series. Admittedly, there were some scenes which strained credibility here and there but all things considered I enjoyed this film for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.

      Another Silly Nikkatsu

When the mysterious "Joe of Spades" executes one of the bosses of a powerful syndicate, his colleagues, fearing for their own lives, call on the services of assassin agency Murder Unincorporated to take care of the problem. This unique entry showcases some of the most peculiar killing tactics to ever hit Japanese cinema.

This is a strange film. We have Al Capone III and his explosive slingshot, and he is just one of many assassins with bizarre looks or killing methods. Is this a spoof of James Bond villains? Or just a unique attempt at a spy comedy? I don't know. But Joe of Spades better watch out, because Nikkatsu has unleashed one of their silliest films ever on him... this easily outdoes "Danger Pays" in the absurd category.
