Can't believe that this Karthik Naren's movie..Very Shocked.. I had some confidence and believes in Karthik Naren's Story..But this seems to be like someone ordinary director movie...We have seen so many movies like this "Maaran" movie..Very disappointed . Dhanush acting Vera level as always (Especially in emotional scenes). Asusual no impressing role for heroine.
Didn't expect this from Karthick Naren!
Idk why they took Malavika for this film, why not take a heroine who speaks Tamil instead of giving a chewing gum to cover her dubbing mouth sync!
Average music, crappy screenplay.
Avoid this if possible!
4/10 : Bad.

Awful writing that even puts Naren's previous flick Mafia: Chapter 1 to shame! Maaran undoubtedly squanders talents like Dhanush, Samuthirakani, and Ameer in a weak af screenplay. Glad this went straight to OTT.

The story fails to captivate, being utterly uninteresting.
The screenplay proves to be a bore, lacking creativity and originality.
The routine making style further adds to the film's lackluster quality.
Dhanush's performance brings nothing new to the table, leaving his potential entirely squandered by the director.
The questionable casting of Malavika Mohanan in significant films is no longer a secret, as her presence fails to make a meaningful impact.
Karthik Naren seems to have reached his creative limit, signaling that it's time for him to step aside.
Overall, this movie disappoints on multiple fronts, with lackluster storytelling and underwhelming performances.

What was the whole purpose of this movie?
A loose plot with so many holes.
Except Dhanush, not one character was 'Acting'.
So many mistakes in scenes. Even kids can point out the mistakes.
I wasted 2hrs of my life.

Once again the understatement of, "A director's first film is only his/her true work". Karthik naren has once again failed to make a mark. Maaran, a poorly written script with a very weak screenplay, makes it awful to watch. It's Better to hire good writers for the script than to waste the money as well as time!!

I had great expectations from karthik naren , because of his story and screenplay. After D16 , nothing turned out good.
This movie is just about a journalist who writes truth. No message is conveyed.

Mr. Amateur is back with another cr@p bundle and this time his victim is Dhanush. In his last outing he mercilessly shut down the careers of Arun Vijay and Prasanna. Maaran is the work of an amateurish school kid who has to learn tons before even thinking of direction. His lack of life experience is visible in his works but nevertheless he keeps blowing his own trumpet. Take a break Karthik Naren. Stop wasting our time. You are unfit to wield the director's hat at least for the next 10 years.

RATED 5/10
Language: Tamil
Source: Hotstar
From sentiment to investigation, nothing is original. I felt it will get better after some time and lost the hope before first half ends.... Karthik naren proved that Thuruvangal pathinaaru is pure luck. The worst version of Ko.

Only hope is the "NARAGASOORAN" for naren....the screenplay was poor with the baseless story, even dhanush performance couldn't save this flick....overall nothing to sayabout this flick watch it on ur own risk.

Such a boring script! Such a boring screenplay!!
This is supposed to be a small short film!!
The villain has no role!! He's been portrayed as a very weak character!! Unwanted artificial lighting!! Really bad editing!!
As vetri maran sir told Karthik should take a huge long break and Infact work with other directors as an assistant and then come back again!!

The most amazing movie I've ever seen in my life. In addition to the tension and action, the brother-sister relationship is wonderfully handled it's hard not to get emotional Dhanush, you are number one.

The movie is good, that's what I'll say. Acting is good. Female leads had very less to do. Bringing out the honesty in journalism is what I liked the most which is missing currently.
Direction, Acting, Songs, Music, Dance is all above average.
One time watchable.

The entire storyline of this movie had a good start in first half.., but that curiosity doesnt get continued... in second half.... the story line had a complete change over which made the second half little disappointed ..... Dhanush, samuthirakkani naren Amir played their roles in their unique style.. Director Karthick naren could have done this story even more better ....

What do most of the audience expect to watch from a director's latest outing, given that the director managed to impress them with his good narrative skills and great twists in his stories? Yes. Exactly that.
But what did he managed to offer in his new film Maaran? Absolutely Not That.
Maaran seemed like a convincing action thriller from its promo material. Infact even the director's decision to hire Suhas-Sharfu as the script writers seemed interesting, since he kinda did a not-so-good job in Mafia:Chapter 1. Yet, atleast he impressed us with Mafia: Chapter 1 for its brilliant twists (yes, that climax twist!).
Maaran was however, the most cliche you can get out of such investigate thrillers. The first half was actually pretty good, considering he brought some brought light hearted moments to elevate the siblings relationship. Even the interval block seemed fine, as it lifted up the thrill for me, which was the reason why I decided to watch this movie.
But, what you are served after the interval is the same dish you got in every other restaurant. It's sad to mention the word 'Routine' for a film I expected quite a lot of uniqueness in. Some of the twists were good while considering the story, yet we can feel them coming a mile away.
Coming to the cast, Dhanush has done his part pretty well. In simple words, it's a cakewalk role for him. I was really impressed by his acting skills at the interval block, coz he showcased the right emotions for that particular situation. The sister role done by Smruti Venkat was also portrayed really well, bringing some good moments in few scenes. Malavika Mohanan's role was a cliche investigation thriller role but was handled by her oretty satisfactorily. Others like Samuthirakani, Ramii etc. Have done justice to their role, though the roles offered nothing new.
To be honest, even the technical aspects were a 'clichè' from the music by G V Prakash Kumar to the script by the duo. Even the cinematography seems pretty dull, as if it seemed suitable for a commercial masala film, not this one.
Overall, the film's a routine fare. *Insert some more concluding sentences to complete the paragraph*

Movie is decent thriller but not something exceptional. Style is the department the movie focuses and movie does justice to it . Danush as usual is a delight to watch and this isnt anything like Karthik Narien's Dhruvangal 16.

Maaran movie is evident that dhanush badly needs vetrimaaran for his vetri right from the start you can easily predict what'll happen next the story is nothing new atleast screenplay should've saved us but sadly it doesn't. The runtime is 2h 10m even that felt like 3 hrs they should've trimmed the movie to save us from this nightmare.the performance of the cast isn't upto the mark only saving thing is BGM that too didn't help much in front of the horrible performance of cast including dhanush. The emotions didn't worked out well infact nothing is good in this movie wasting the potential of cast and crew and our time is the one thing it does Perfectly.

Story is average. But poor placing. Bgm and sound effects BAD. Scenes get switched so quickly that they seem incomplete. There's no continuity, feels something is left out. Dhanush acting brilliant. Sister acting good. But entire plot, not satisfactory. Bgm not properly used. Action sequences don't give the 'Action' feel. One time watch, only for Dhanush. Makers didn't reached Dhanush and Malvika's talent. Some scrnes, burning etc. And brother-sister bond was worth watching. But overall film, too average. Fighting scenes need strong bgm, very poorly planned. I watched for Dhanush, 45% satisfied with his role. Acting 100% no doubt. But power ? NO.

5 Reasons Why Dhanush is a Better Role Model Than Most
Dhanush dons many hats and juggles the roles of a film actor, producer, lyricist, and playback singer. Although he has been a huge success only in Tamil cinema, Dhanush has made his presence felt in Bollywood through his great acting skills. We saw him first in Raanjhanaa opposite Sonam Kapoor, and then with Amitabh Bachchan Dhanush made his debut in 2002 with Thulluvadho Ilamai. He is part of a family that is deeply rooted in films. He is the son of Tamil film director and producer Kasthuri Raja, and his brother Selvaraghavan is also a well-known director. He is married to Aishwarya, Rajinikanth's daughter. In spite of such strong roots, he has managed to carve his niche independent of his family ties. Here's why we think he makes a great role model.
Nothing wrong with these new kids copying bits from Hollywood and trying to make a name for themselves . One hit wonder but atleast make the screenplay worth it. Story going all over the place leaving me with doubt is it a political thriller ...brother and sister pasa malar nonsense ..or rookie director that has no idea. Fail give it a miss.
I decided to Watch Maaran on OTT, following Atrangi Re of Dhanush ... Well Maaran is a Disaster... Bad Direction, Bad Editing, good story (hence my 2star)... If D-16 was 10-10, Maaran was 0-10...

Really confused why two of the most talented people in the industry decide to do such a usual commercial flick...waste of opportunity by two extremely talented people who could have made something unique n interesting for the audience...is this for the money?? God knows...
