The film was originally set for a theatrical release in Mexico in 2009, but there was, to date, no further information regarding this. This makes Kung Fu Magoo the first film from Anima Estudios that never got a theatrical release. It instead had its Mexican premiere on Cartoon Network on July 2011.
This is the first animated co-production between the United States and Mexico for Ánima Estudios.
The film was co-produced by Motion Toons, a new company formed by Ánima Estudios and Santo Domingo Films.
