No, that’s not a typo, for their latest mockbuster, The Twisters the folks at The Asylum simply added “The” to the title of the film they’re cashing in on. That’s a pretty ballsy move even for them, and since I haven’t heard of any lawsuits being filed, they seem to have gotten away with it, much like they did simply tacking an “s” onto the end of The Exorcist and releasing The Exorcists a few months ago.
This time out, the film begins as a tornado is about to take out Topeka, Kansas. Nobody but Dr. James Garland knows. He knows because his new predictive algorithm, code-named Tina, told him so. But, the weather is clear and sunny so nobody, least of all his boss Dr.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga roared through Cannes before it launches in theaters Friday after nearly 10 years in development. The prequel film builds on the Australian wasteland universe established in George Miller’s four other movies of the franchise: Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
In Fury Road, which became the first in the franchise to receive Academy Award nominations (winning six out of ten awards), Charlize Theron portrayed Imperator Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the titular role in this next installment, which shows her backstory of getting kidnapped by Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and his Biker Hord. At 10 years old, she is forced to grow up fast, and while she fights for survival, her only wish is to return home and reunite with her family.

The Internet demands to know: did Sydney Sweeney fabricate parts of her inspiring backstory?
Let’s rewind. In November, the 26-year-old actress and budding producer graced the cover of Women’s Health to promote a starring role opposite Glen Powell in the romantic comedy Anyone But You. Writer Lindsay Geller recapped Sweeney’s humble beginnings as a teenager who made extra cash by babysitting, cleaning restaurant bathrooms and leading tours at Universal Studios to help her family pay the bills while she was trying to make it in Hollywood. “I watched my parents lose a lot. We filed for bankruptcy, and they lost their house back home on the lake,” she said. “We couldn’t afford life in L.A.”

It was bound to happen. Netflix started making and showing original movies, then Amazon, and then Tubi followed suit with Swim. But as Tubi is not a thing here in the UK (thanks Gdpr) we’ve instead had to wait almost two years for the film to hit Blighty. However, don’t get too excited. Given their budget and “free with commercials” format of its source, this isn’t The Irishman or The Tomorrow War. This shark in the house film was made by The Asylum and their frequent director Jared Cohn from a script by Anthony C. Ferrante… so don’t expect Jaws either!
The Samson family Lacey, her father Noah, and kids Charlotte (Brett Hargrave; Weedjies: Halloweed Night) and Tucker (Daniel Grogan) are renting a beach house.

One of Latin America’s biggest genre propositions, the Latido Films-sold “Virus 32,” from Uruguayan director Gustavo Hernandez (“You Shall Not Sleep”), was unveiled Tuesday on the A Demain Cannes market platform.
The $1 million pic is a 50-50 Argentina-Uruguay co-production between Aeroplano, run by Sebastian Aloi, and Mother Superior Films, run by Hernandez and Ignacio García Cucucovich.
In addition to subsidy support from Argentina and Uruguay, the horror-thriller has funding from private investors and a pre-sale to Buena Vista for Latin American rights, including a theatrical release in Argentina and Uruguay. Rest of the world rights, including U.S. rights, are sold by Latido.
The video presentation of the new project featured producer Aloi, director Hernandez and screenwriter Juma Fodde Roma.
The story unrolls in a 24-hour period, and is shot in the 13,000 sq. ft. abandoned Neptuno Sports Club in Montevideo. It was written prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and...

Tagline: "Welcome to Hell." A few details have emerged for the horror title Devil's Revenge. Developed by Jared Cohn (The Horde), Devil's Revenge involves an archaeologist's dig and a portal to Hell. Now, the portal can only be closed by destroying an ancient relic. This title stars a few "Star Trek" alumni, including: William Shatner and Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager). Jason Brooks, Ciara Hanna and Jackie Dallas also star. As well, Cleopatra Entertainment has produced this horror film and will distribute it, this October. Cohn has directed a few horror titles, already. This film fan knows Cohn from his work on the action horror title The Horde (2016) and Death Pool (2017). Very much an indie director, Cohn is also a prolific actor, based out of the City of Angels. His latest is expected to release on October 1st. On this date, Devil's Revenge will be available on Digital platforms, across the United States.

His origin story begins modestly…The camera dwells on an unassuming man, white, balding, his head resting against the window of a speeding train as the world blurs by. When an alluring woman catches his attention, this man, indolent and unamazing, slyly tugs from his finger the wedding ring, that golden noose. He makes small talk, the laconic banter of the lonely. It’s almost painful to watch. The listless flirtations of this poor mundane man are captured in one long, unobstreperous take. There’s a patience to the scene, an unembellished sense of banality to this brief, unimportant moment in the lives of two strangers. Cut to the hospital, another wide, patient shot, the lumpy shape of something—a body?—blurry in the foreground. This unamazing man, David Dunn (Bruce Willis), sitting stoically on a gurney, is told by a befuddled doctor that he is the lone survivor of a catastrophic train wreck,...

Warning: this post contains Massive spoilers for the latest M. Night Shyamalan movie, Glass!
After 20 years, we're finally getting the conclusion to the trilogy we barely knew existed until, like, two years ago. Glass marks the third (and supposedly final) installment in M. Night Shyamalan's dialed-down superhero universe, coming nearly 20 years after 2000's Unbreakable. Unfortunately, Glass does not provide closure on the whole affair. Rather, it cracks open a whole world of possibilities that, to be frank, have left us scratching our heads. In order to help you piece together what exactly goes down at the end of the film, we're going to give our best shot at making sense of the superhuman mess in Glass.
The Basics
Ok, so you know the basic concept of the film, right? I'll give a hilariously brief summary. On one end, we have David Dunn, our low-key "Superman" who has become a neighborhood vigilante of sorts,...

Chicago – Maybe inside filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s head, his latest film “Glass” works… all the elements of what we need to know about this sequel to Mns’s previous films “Split” and “Unbreakable” are within. However, what works inside the director’s head may not work for the audience, especially in the first half of the film.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy return from the previous films to reprise their characters, and they all become incarcerated as the film begins. This leads to the perplexing first 70 minutes, that has all the intrinsic story value as reading the ingredients in flour. It’s not until the inevitable escape occurs that the film takes on some more electricity, and by the conclusion there is a good sense of where the mystery might go and some of the supporting characters step up to add there own sense of M.

Two years ago, M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split” became one of the surprise box office hits of 2017. Critics and audiences hailed the film as a long overdue return to form for the “Sixth Sense” director, and the surprise twist ending that revealed the film as a secret sequel to his 2000 film “Unbreakable” created a wave of anticipation for “Glass,” the trilogy-completing film that hits theaters this Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend.
But as Universal prepares to release the film on 3,700 screens, “Glass” is being hammered by critics as a big letdown, currently holding a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 38 percent compared to 76 percent for “Split.” What’s more, some critics are predicting that fans of “Split” are going to be very disappointed, leading to bad word of mouth.

This January sees the release of Glass, the finale of a superhero movie trilogy that’s taken nearly 20 years to unfold. Back in 2000’s Unbreakable, Bruce Willis played super-powered everyman David Dunn who – spoilers – discovers his friend Elijah Price Aka Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) is, in comic book terms, his nemesis. Dunn then reappeared in 2017’s Split, revealing that the horror pic starring James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb Aka The Horde, a man with dozens of personalities, was actually a secret sequel.
Though Dunn only shows up in Split‘s final moments, this wasn’t a late-in-the-day decision by director M. Night Shyamalan to tie his two films together. In fact, he originally created The Horde to appear in Unbreakable many years earlier. Crumb would’ve been the home invader Dunn stops near the end of the movie. However, Shyamalan took him out of the story as he...

A low-budget, high-concept superhero movie that’s as clever in its design as it is joyless in its execution, M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” is meant to be seen as some kind of demented self-portrait, but which of its dull characters is the long-suffering auteur meant to be? Is he “Unbreakable” strongman David Dunn (a vegetative Bruce Willis), the born survivor who can withstand any amount of pain and keep on coming back for more? Is he Elijah Price (a cunning Samuel L. Jackson), the brittle mastermind who takes everything too personally, and prides himself on the devious ingenuity of his plots? Is he “Split” antagonist Kevin Wendell Crumb (an exhausting James McAvoy), who suffers from an exaggerated personality disorder that makes it difficult to guess what he’s going to do next, or to reconcile his limitless potential with his glaring inability to control it?

It's been 18 years since the release of Unbreakable, one of the most popular superhero movies not based on any comic book or other source material. M. Night Shyamalan had long teased a follow-up, and finally one arrived covertly as the 2016 thriller Split, which revealed itself as a secret spin-off in its final moments. Now, we're also getting a more direct sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, called Glass. This one will see the return of Samuel L. Jackson's titular villain character from the 2000 original, as he joins his heroic nemesis played by Bruce Willis and fellow bad guy The Beast (aka The Horde), played by James McAvoy. All three appear in a new trailer just released by Universal, but this time the eponymous Mr. Glass takes center stage as an evil...

M. Night Shyamalan’s take on comic book superheroes is coming to an explosive head more than 18 years after he first kicked it off with “Unbreakable.”
At San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Shyamalan dropped a trailer for “Glass,” the third movie in what has become a superhero trilogy that started with “Unbreakable” and suddenly picked up steam again with last year’s “Split,” a movie nobody knew was related until its ending.
“Glass” finds the characters of “Unbreakable” — Mr. Glass, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and David Dunn, a nearly invulnerable man who goes on to become something of a superhero, played by Bruce Willis — coming together years later with James McAvoy’s character from “Split.” In that movie, McAvoy played a man with split personalities called Kevin Wendell Crumb, who becomes known as The Horde after a powerful, superpowered personality called the Beast seems to take him over.

M. Night Shyamalan surprised everyone with an ultimate twist at the end of his film, Split, when the after-credit scene revealed that David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who was the lead character in Shymalan’s Unbreakable, is sitting at a diner watching a news story about Kevin Wendell Crumb aka The Horde (James McAvoy). The scene would tie together a superhuman universe from M. Night Shyamalan. In April of 2017, Shyamalan would announce a sequel for both Unbreakable and Split and that sequel called Glass, centered around Samuel L. Jackson‘s Unbreakable character, Mr. Glass. Shymalan revealed the first poster for the film via Twitter.

Forgive us for being tentative about this moment for M. Night Shyamalan, whose out-of-nowhere blockbuster “Split’ marked a huge comeback for the director in 2016.
Doubling down, Universal allowed the filmmaker to weave the multiple-personality inflicted villain The Horde from that film with the indestructible hero and fragile genius villain from his 2000 film “Unbreakable.”
Film exhibitors attending CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday were surprised with a full trailer for this combined universe — “Glass” — and we’re relieved to say its more confident, twisted and outright scary than we found “Split” in early days.

James McAvoy returns as The Horde, with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson reprising their “Unbreakable” roles of David Dunn and Elijah Price (a.k.a. Mr. Glass). All three have been united in a Pennsylvania mental hospital, the exclusive trailer revealed, under the care of a shrink played by Sarah Paulson.
Paulson’s speciality is treating those with such delusions of grandeur they imagine they are superheroes — but the good doctor has a major problem. These men aren’t as delusional as she thinks.
Set against the grit of Shyamalan’s beloved city of Philadelphia, The Horde gets up to his stalking-young-girls tricks again as Mr. Glass uses his extraordinary Iq to provoke the superhuman powers out of The Horde, which he’ll doubtlessly use him for his own evil plans.
Willis’ Dunn doesn’t have much to do in this footage. Paulson, rocking a creepy red ‘do, is perfect as an obsessed academic who bites off way more than she can chew. Anya Taylor-Joy, the protagonist from “Split,” also pops up for a reunion with McAvoy.
To see these genres infused with originality is exciting to say the least, but the biggest takeaway today was from Jackson himself.
“It’s about time I got the title role in my own motherf—-ing movie,” said Jackson, the titular Mr. Glass.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass, a sequel to both Unbreakable and Split, has a lot to live up to. 2000’s Bruce Willis-starring vehicle is a cult favourite film, with a devoted fan base that laud it as one of the most interesting superhero movies ever made. 2017’s Split, meanwhile, might not have been quite so acclaimed, but it’s generally thought of to be a real return to form for the director. Not to mention it included that last-minute twist which got Shyamalan’s fans excited for what was to come next.
Thankfully, early reactions to Glass are apparently very positive. Or at least, that’s according to the director himself, who took to Twitter to reveal that he recently screened a 12-minute preview to an audience of representatives from Universal and Disney in Los Angeles.

Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart Blu-Ray Review
There are few movies that are as wild, original, and filled with soul as Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart, and the only problem with that is that it’s going to make you think someone else directed it. (He didn’t.)
Adapted by Mathias Malzieu from his own bestselling novel and the gold-selling album by his band Dionysos, Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a magical story that feels like a new breed of myth, and it comes to you through brilliant animation.
Born on the coldest day in the history of the Earth, Jack’s heart is frozen solid. To save his life, midwife Madeleine grafts a tiny cuckoo clock into his chest to take its place. Everything will be fine, she tells him, so long as he follows three rules in order to keep things running smooth – He can never touch the clock’s workings,...

Films Distribution has released the first trailer for "Goal Of The Dead", the zombie soccer bloodbath helmed by Benjamin Rocher ("La Horde") and Thierry Poiraud ("Atomik Circus, Le Retour De James Bataille"). The trailer is in French, and unfortunately missing subtitles. "Goal Of The Dead" was acquired out of Efm by Metrodome (U.K.), Core Media Group (Germany), Korea (Line Tree), Hong Kong (Sundream), Turkey (Bir Film), Belgium (Cineart), as well as the Netherlands and Austria. It was previously acquired by Nikkatsu for Japan (per Variety). The two-part film centers around a French Olympic football team who visits a small village in Northern France to play a crucial game in the run-up to the World Cup. I profiled this French zombie flick, titled La Horde, back in May.
Soon thereafter, IFC’s new genre label, IFC Midnight, acquired it for distribution, with plans to premiere the film simultaneously in theaters and on VOD in August, with an eventual DVD release later.
Well… it’s later.
A quick recap… You should remember Eriq Ebouaney… his highest profile role likely being in Raoul Peck’s wonderful 2000 film Lumumba, as the titular character.
In, La Horde (The Horde), co-directed by Frenchmen Yannick Dahan & Benjamin Rocherhe, Ebouaney leads a pack of crooked cops and malevolent gangsters in a life/death battle against a horde of the walking dead – aka zombies.
Stuck on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, in this gruesome, tight, action-packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape, two opposing groups (the crooked cops and the gangsters) find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death.

*La Horde aka The Horde releases on DVD today and here writer Ed Sum adds his thoughts.
Directors: Yannick Dahan, and Benjamin Rocher.
Writers: Yannick Dahan, Benjamin Rocher, Arnaud Bordas, and Stéphane Moïssakis.
Is it the end of the world already? The widely anticipated North American DVD release of La Horde will hit stores Dec 21st, 2010. This video will certainly be one to delight fans who are familiar with the stars of French entertainment—actor Eriq Ebouaney (Cape of Good Hope, Kingdom of Heaven) plays Markudi and rapper Doudou Masta plays Bola, his brother. They demonstrate a chemistry that’s normally reserved for a Quentin Tarantino product.
This engagement helps because what happens throughout the film is atypical for a gangster flick. After the murder of a detective at the start of the film, certain members of the French police decide to go vigilante on the worst night possible for life in Paris.

Well, we have taken a look at the "Best of" on the domestic circuit, in relation to indie films. Now, let us go global to track down the best in international horror. This is a year where the vile was unleashed with the Human Centipede to the action oriented zombie film the Devil's Playground. This reviewer admits a weakness in the areas of Asian and Italian films, from abroad. If it is not Takashi Miike, then this movie lover has likely not heard of it. Giallo is another film genre that does not appeal here.
However, there were several good outings from Scandinavian countries like Dead Snow and French horror continues towards an apex with movies such as La Horde and High Lane. Some unreleased projects like the serial killer franchise Fritt Vilt 3 (Cold Prey 3) will be included in this list. So, sit back, relax and let this movie reviewer...

Two notable horror films will release on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. The titles include M. Night Shyamalan's Devil and Yannick Dahan's La Horde, or The Horde. Devil has been given some attention in a review on 28Dla; the review can be found here: Devil Movie Review. 28Dla writer, Ed Sum described the film as "what Shyamalan has created has the scope of being something larger than life." So, there is definitely some intrigue in the film. As well, the French film La Horde has made some waves by putting some thrills and action back into the coming zombie apocalypse. An international trailer for this film has previously been posted here: La Horde International Trailer.
Both of these titles will be made available December 21st and these releases will each host a whole slew of extras. The special features and more details on these films can be found inside.

Halloween is becoming one of my favourite times of the year as I get to put myself through some extreme movie watching experiences as well as seeing some of the best/worst horror films and characters ever created.
Last Halloween I watched all the films featuring the horror legends of Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, I recorded their kill counts as well as doing a face off competition to decide who was the ultimate movie villain of the three legends with Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th Movies being the overall winner. You can see my blood-soaked venture here.
This year I went for a test of endurance, my plan was to watch as many Zombie movies consecutively until sleep deprivation turned me into something closely resembling a Zombie. I had 20 films lined up for the experiment and managed to get through 10 films over approximately 19 hours from...

IFC Films has debuted a new official Us trailer on YouTube for the release of The Horde, a French zombie film that we've been writing about since earlier this year. I'm sure a few of you probably already have a copy of this on DVD, but for those of us in the Us who are zombie fans, this is really our first chance to check it out. I like the gritty style of horror/genre films coming out of France these days, so I'm interested in seeing this, but this trailer is pretty awful, especially the shitty dubbing (not to mention that cheesy voice over). I don't know why they did that, but if you're into zombie movies (or French flicks) then check it out anyway. I’d forgotten all about it; and, thankfully, was reminded of it this morning while researching something else. Did any of you happen to remember and catch it?
IFC says it aired on August 11th, although, I can’t immediately tell if it was just a single day screening, or if it’s available throughout the month. IFC’s website doesn’t make it easy to find these things out. But it looks like it definitely aired on the 11th.

We have a brand new clip from the solid zombie apocalypse film La Horde to share with you, and it is embedded below for your viewing pleasures!
In the scene, French policewoman Aurore (played quite well by actress Claude Perron) finds herself locked in mortal combat with a female zombie. The battle takes place in a kitchen of a run down social housing project, and Aurore seizes every possible advantage she can in the fight by employing the use of surrounding instruments; which is a wordy way of saying, "She kicks her zombie ass!"
La Horde tells the story of a collection of crooks and cops fighting to survive during the absolutely imminent zombie apocalypse. Check out the clip, and read the full review here!

It's an unwritten rule in zombie film making that the beginning of the film is just a day in the life. Films which follow this pattern begin with people going about their various petty affairs, going to work, getting groceries, scratching themselves, and all the other common activities that make up humdrum existence. It's refreshing, then, that a film has finally been made which captures a scenario wherein the zombie apocalypse crashes down upon a completely unrelated drama.

Is it a revelation or a revolution? It’s both! The Revelation Perth International Film Festival is tackling the theme of “Revolution” when its 13th annual edition begins violating Australia on July 8-18. Get set for 11 days filled French zombies, Belgian cowboys, outer space outlaws, Beat poets, cat ladies, gospel musicians and other revolutionaries.
Actually, one of the main features of the festival this year is a slew of music documentaries, mostly spotlighting both American and Australian music. On the U.S. side of things there’s Wheedle’s Groove, a look at the history of Seattle funk; Rejoice and Shout, which examines gospel music’s impact on African-American culture — and vice versa; Tom Dicillo’s Doors documentary When You’re Strange; plus The Family Jams and 72 Musicians. And, from Australia, there’s Megan Simpson-Hubberman’s classic concert film The Night of the Triffids.
There’s lots more than music docs,...

Below you can checkout a gruesome new trailer for IFC Films La Horde. This new and upcoming zombie flick looks to have a ton of promise and is high up on my must see this summer.
Directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, this French zombie movie follows a posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead through an action packed story of escape and revenge. A hit at the Venice Film Festival, London’s FrightFest Film Festival and at this year’s Colcoa (City of Lights City of Angels), the film will premiere in theaters and on VOD under the IFC Midnight label beginning in August.

IFC has already announced that La Horde aka The Horde will have an August showing through the IFC Midnight label and a DVD release will follow shortly after that with partner Mpi Media Group (IFC). Now, an international trailer is available, which shows much of the violent action from the picture. A group of police officers and gangsters band together to fight off relentless attacks from the undead, where an unexplained virus sweeps the city. Have a watch as these characters become trapped in a high rise tenement below.
The synopsis for La Horde here:
"North of Paris, in order to avenge the murder of one of their own by a group of ruthless gangsters, four corrupt cops go on a rampage in a condemned building serving as the mobster's hideout. Now trapped, the officers are about to be executed when the unimaginable occurs; hordes of rage-fueled zombies invade the building,...

Along with their partnership with The Criterion Collection, it looks like IFC Films is set to jump into an even bigger portion of the video-on-demand world, with a brand new, genre friendly brand, IFC Midnight.
The brand will bring horror, sci-fi, thrillers, erotic films, action and any other film of that ilk to televisions nationwide. Midnight itself also has a special distribution deal with Mpi Media Group, so it is more than likely that these films will have little to no chance of making the jump to the Criterion Collection (sorry for all those Human Centipede fans craving a “C” to appear on the corner of the film’s DVD cover art, it just isn’t going to happen).
If there is one thing that IFC has been able to do since its inception is bring some of the best and most envelope pushing films to the mainstream, or at...
