"That abandoned place" is an emotionally touching film. The film opens as the young women engage in deep thinking, and then she goes into calling a suicide helpline and the conversation reveals her experience at the hospital in which she had just been released. The next scene in which she meets her mother in her thoughts is emotionally touching. The scenes presented ere are deeply felt in the heart. Of particular note is how the young lady hums while holding into her wedding dress recalling memories and how she feels she wants to be who she is. This is interesting, it is important to be oneself, yet finding the ability to be oneself is limited and restricted by life itself which flows on its own, life is unpredictable and many things that happen in one's life are not possible to control or manage at a will, thus life brings various forms of sufferings such as separation from a loved one, death of loved ones and similar reasons. The film captures the reality of life so well and the director deserves praise for this. This movie indirectly calls on the need to be open-minded to realize how hopes and expectations can cause unwanted stress and suicidal thoughts for innocent people who are trapped in difficult life situations. The story behind the movie looks very real and I would think that the pain it shows applied commonly to many of us due to various circumstances in life that cause suffering in many ways. Besides, this is also interesting, given that we live in a society where it seems that it is hard to meet the expectations when that happens life can be painful and frustrating for many of us. This movie reminds us that there is a need to support humanity suffering in life. The film is stylish and well-acted. The concept and the teme of the movie are very interesting, especially capturing the mind aspect of individuals has been rarely paid attention to in the film industry, yet there is a need to recognize how important it is to address the needs and mental aspects of people and this movie makes a good contribution to that. Well acted, well made and well directed, and though-provoking. Give this film a look, if you can stomach it 10 out of 10.
I saw the first viewing of this film followed by a Q&A session with the Director.
First off, the film deals with some of the most heavy topics you can possibly deal with on this mortal coil.
My interpretation is the main character most likely suffered from a mental illness and it was interesting to see life through her lens.
She met an almost obsessed partner at a suggested psych ward however it still was not fulfilling for her. She had a loving mother, still not enough.
Unforunately, I can relate to this story to a degree dealing with depression and anxiety issues along with suicidal ideation as this is one of the main issues for the protaganist.
That abandoned place to me refers to the space where you do not want to be. It could be caused by extrinsic factors that are weighing on your mind.....do i make enough money, do I have a prestigous enough job title, etc.
To me it is a call to action to go after what you want screw the consequences. Have courage and do you.
I think the director does have a gift and I really want to see her prior film, "He belongs to Us" however having trouble finding it at the moment via streaming services.
You can tell she makes movies out of passion and not just to get paid which is the purest and best way to make cinema in my opinion.
I highly recommend you go out and see this in the theaters with a friend and debate the film after like all truly great films are met to do....generate discussion.
Looking forward to your future works Gigi!
