The character of Sarah personified the courage and strength of Africa American women. The storyline was powerful! You will laugh, get angry, and feel sorrow! Kept me on an emotional rollercoaster.... I think that James Jones has a bright future in filmmaking! Looking forward to his next venture!!!

This is a deep film with many layers of meaning. As sojourners on this planet, we all grapple with what it means to be free. In our current social and political climate we must question injustice and what gives it power. When we dare to claim our right to be free, wonderful things happen. Thank you Mr. Jones for a powerful, inspiring story.
As a black person, I appreciate movies about our history but not this one. Very weird, very very weird. The random and out-of-place music videos were laughable, scenes that made no sense, several things that weren't appropriate for the period, unanswered questions as to be expected, and not all, but most, were poor actors. The ending? Lol.
I am a little bothered I even watched the entire movie but I tried so hard to give it a chance as I live in North Eastern North Carolina.
I can easily say I am disappointed but can also say I can appreciate what (I think) was attempted here. I will say there were beautiful singers in this movie.

This film has a lot of emotion and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. The music and performances are outstanding as well as the making of the film. It deals with very sensitive issues but does so in such a way that it brings healing. The viewers will be moved and changed after seeing it. Bravo!

This film has a lot a varying entertainment qualities... drama, action, comedy and even musical numbers! It was a brilliant way to tell a story of events from the past in an authentic, captivating yet light-hearted manner. The cast was incredible. Carolyn and Stewart were my favorite characters for different reasons. Carolyn displayed the refinement expected of someone in her position and also the fear a child in a foreign place would have in this environment. Stewart was just pure comedy. His comedic timing was excellent.

This film depicts a time in our history that is associated with indescribable pain and oppression. The director and cast did a great job of changing the narrative from the inferior "slave story" to empowering and up lifting. Some of the scenes were tough to watch but much needed due to its historic truth. I suggest any lover of history to see this film.

This Film takes on a different approach to Freedom of a courageous fearless girl to corral her friends and family to break the bonds that have held captive not just for one , but all. Such an emotional performance on all levels among the cast, crew, Director, and writers in this deepening through the heart and soul of a story to the screen for us to see for generations.
