The first season (consisting ten episodes) was recorded in April 1979, and aired on Tuesdays between September 4 and November 6, 1979 on Pikku kakkonen (1977) at Yle TV2 channel. Mostly reruns were aired in 1980 (between April and July), but a new Christmas episode aired in December 24, 1980. It also featured a new animated opening title sequence (a magician's white glove) by the graphic artist and animator Pertti Nykänen.

The second season (consisting ten episodes) was recorded in February and November 1981, and aired between October 15 and December 17, 1981. Two episodes featured the Karvakuonot (recorded in November 1981) and one episode Circus Clown Hermanni (recorded in February 1981). Some episodes also featured a children's studio audience, the first time for the series. There were no reruns in 1982, but two new episodes were still aired: Easter episode in April 8 (recorded in March 1982) and an episode in June 4 (recorded in front of the child audience in October 16, 1981 during the home technology fairs held in Helsinki Fair Centre). Only reruns were then aired in 1983 (between January and April, and September and November). Both seasons were directed by Olli Löytönen.

The third season (consisting six episodes) aired between March 30 and May 11, 1984. It featured a new studio set by art director Liisa Luotola (who also worked on season four) where the child audience could gather in front of a castle. In addition to a new opening logo, two different theme music were used: the first based on a barrel organ and the last two episodes based on a synthesizers.

The fourth and final season (consisting six episodes) was recorded in May and August 1985, and aired between September 3 and October 8, 1985. It returned to more basic studio set, but still in front of a children's studio audience. A new animated opening title sequence (with animated Timo Taikuri blowing a balloon) was designed by the graphic artist and animator Risto Nurisalo. There was also a new theme music. Some reruns between November and December concluded the year 1985. Seasons three and four were directed by Juhani Nättilä.

Reruns continued to air in 1986 (between January and March), in 1987 (January and March), in 1988 (February and April), and in 1990 (May and June). A new series "Timo Taikurin taikauni" premiered in November 11, 1988.
