I can go on and on using adjective after adjectiveto describe this wonderful watch. from the get go, i was able to feel the tension amidst the destruction caused. i don't know much about Calcutta or India because of my limited knowledge but awed me so much i did watched and read about the city for a good two days prior to writing this review. It's really worth it. do not hesitate and give this cinema a go it won't let you down!
Having binged on Studio Ghibli flicks over the past few years from time to time, I'd wager I find it very hard to exact pleasure from most animated endeavors due to the bar that has been set by perennial favorites like Spirited Away, for instance. I came away finding Wade to be quite a rewarding watch, finding myself being drawn to their post-apocalyptic setting and being stimulated enough from a viewer's perspective in terms of having plenty to analyse and unwrap. The creators have surely put in the hard yards and having learnt that the visuals have been hand-drawn from another comment, my admiration for this effort has only grown.
I've been to many a sojourn to India owing to my spiritual inclinations and in particular, have visited Kolkata. While I wasn't impressed by the civic sense prevalent there and found the administration to be too lackadaisical in their preservation of the rustic infrastructure that forms part of the charm of this city, this movie puts forth an incredible effort towards not just showcasing the charm of the city, but reinventing it even in the face of devastation and a catatonic aftermath. This is a highly recommended watch and big ups to the makers! Will not divulge anything about the story for fear of spoiling it as I've been guilty of doing in the past when I am too exalted. Just give it a go, fellas..
While the movie is short, it leaves you craving for more and I hope that through some kind of contrivance we can get a spin-off or sequel or basically an extension of this story in any form. We see some very poetic moments which I'd refrain from spoiling. The best thing really is the interesting animation though. It clearly lends some inspiration from Japanese anime production but the makers have added their own distinct flavor to it. The setting is really gorgeous and moody. Loved it and will recommend it to my friends and anyone looking for an experience.
Watching this short is scary on many levels - the whole setting is so familiar that you know what's happening on the screen will happen to us all in the next few years. And then the tigers! And the way they arrive on the scene! You will be at the edge of your seat. All the the visuals are painstakingly hand drawn - the effort that went into the film shows in every frame. Don't miss it!
