FAQ

Knight Rider

FAQ

The technical term is "On-Hiatus." That simply means there is not a final decision one way or the other. What this also means is if renewed we will likely get a press release stating such, but if it is cancelled they will just let it go without official comment. If there is no information by the fall, you can expect it to not return.

The NBC web site states that the last episode was the season finale, while the previews called it the series finale. The most recent episode got respectable ratings and was a jump from previous weeks.

UPDATE: NBC has announced in early May 2009 that Knight Rider will not return and has been cancelled after only one season.

The pilot movie established that the Michael of this show is the son of the original Michael Knight, though the two have had almost no contact with each other. Charles Graiman was established to have been a key developer for the original K.I.T.T, and in fact based much of the K.I.T.T. of this show on the original, as the pilot movie showed glimpses of the original dashboard and other parts in Graiman's garage.

The series has given fewer bits of continuity with the original, but has plainly re-affirmed what was given in the pilot movie. Some confusion was given in that the pilot movie talked about re-establishing the independently funded Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG) of the original show, but the series proper introduced with little explanation another group called the SSC, which had direct ties to the government.

Later episodes seem to imply that plans to restore FLAG were interrupted by the government wanting in on the project, and after problematic events the core characters returned to recreating FLAG without government control.

This K.I.T.T. is an acronym for Knight Industries Three Thousand, and improved AI vehicle using parts and technology that developed the original K.I.T.T. or Knight Industries Two Thousand.

On a side note. K.A.R.R. also appears in this series, in the original KARR was the prototype for KITT (two thousand) in this series, the SSC tries to redesign KITT and uses KARR (new) as the prototype again. Both versions of KARR are "evil" because the lack the morality that both KITT's were designed with.

Additional Side Note: KARR originally was voiced by Peter Cullen most famous for voice nearly every incarnation of the transformer Optimus Prime. He returns to voice the new version of KARR which now has a transformation mode (possibly a nod to Cullen's work with transformers)
