Hilary Duff was first offered the part of Annie Wilson but declined the role. Shenae Grimes-Beech was then cast.
Jessica Lowndes was originally contracted for a maximum of four episodes only and wound up being on every episode but one.
The school featured as West Beverly High School is the same school lot used in Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997), She's All That (1999), and Not Another Teen Movie (2001).
Cast members from the original Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) to appear on this follow-up included: Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Ann Gillespie, and Joe E. Tata. Jason Priestley directed an episode.
AnnaLynne McCord and Shenae Grimes-Beech did not get along throughout the series' run. It wasn't until a surprise phone call from Grimes-Beech to McCord the day before the series wrapped that their friendship rekindled.
