The House Guest

Why when it starts to get good it goes off that's crazy so is there a part 2 hate movies like this. Like we need more details about the house guess and what's gonna happen next.

Of course I had never even heard about this 2020 thriller titled "The House Guest" movie. The movie's cover wasn't the usual formulaic stuff that Maverick Entertainment usually spews out.

The narrative in director Jonathan Milton's movie wasn't exactly stellar entertainment. Sure, it was a watchable movie, but it was rather dull and boring. But at least it was still a step up from many other movies from Maverick Entertainment. The narrative was held back by a rather slow pace.

Of course I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. I can't claim to say that I was particularly impressed with the performances. The acting performances were fair, which definitely is a step up from so many other movies from Maverick Entertainment, but you're not in for anything grand here.

The character gallery in the movie was pretty bland and one-dimensional. The characters were lacking depths, motivation and a general appeal.

The sound in the movie was pretty terrible. Some of the scenes had sounds sounding like it was recorded in the wilderness. Lots of interference and scrambling noise, making it rather amateurish and at times difficult to make out the dialogue.

While I did indeed make it through the entire 82 minute runtime, I can't claim that I was particularly entertained. Nor is it a movie that I will ever pick up a second time, nor recommend to fans of the thriller genre.

My rating of director Jonathan Milton's 2020 movie "The House Guest" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

You only get to watch this for the first time once, so choose your state of mind carefully. It is a film about movies and dreams and reality, and what sort of life it is best to find when you leave the cinema and return to whatever you left to enter. It is spectacular, and brutal, and enigmatic and disturbing. It is beautiful and absorbing. It is about one of my favourite characters ever to grace the screen. I don't see it often, in case it's not as good as I like to remember it. That is my secret, that I lock away in my safe in the basement. That somewhere there is a perfect world for us all. For some, perhaps it is in the cinema watching this.
