The first draft of the script was written in 2003, filming began in June 2005, and the post-production wrapped in late 2007. The movie wasn't released until late spring 2008. Altogether, this film took almost five years to make.
The woman dancing through the opening titles is cult siren Marisa Mell, one of the director's favorite actresses.
Barbara Kowa was Schneider's first choice to play Catherine, but she had to pull out of the project due to a theater commitment. Dominique Wolf stepped in shortly before filming began.
