Francis Matthews' brother Paul Shelley spent a day shooting behind-the-scenes footage on the day where Francis's character investigates the castle alone. In the commentary for Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Christopher Lee (also with Barbara Shelley and Suzan Farmer) says to Francis, "I never gave permission to be filmed by your brother," and Francis said, "I never gave him permission either."
