When Bella (Kristen Stewart) cuts her finger while at her 18th birthday party at the Cullens' house and bloodlust overcomes Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) decides that his presence in Bella's life is a danger to her, so he and his family leave Forks. During his absence, Bella learns that she can evoke him psychically whenever she does anything dangerous, so she takes up motorcycles and cliff-diving. Her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) offers her a modicum of solace...until Jake develops a secret of his own and also ends his friendship with her.
New Moon is a novel by American author Stephenie Meyer. It is second in a series of four books, collectively known as the Twilight Saga. In order, the books are Twilight (2005), New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2007), and Breaking Dawn (2008). The other three books have also been made into movies: Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011), and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012). The screenplay for New Moon was written by American screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who also wrote the screenplay for the first movie.
Filming started in March 2009 in Italy and in Vancouver, Canada. According to an article published by Oregon Buisness, they didn't film in Portland due to the budget, i.e., filming in Canada is cheaper.
Yes. At the premiere for the movie Push (2009), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) even stated that the yellow Porsche would be in New Moon. (Source here.)
He may have moved around but, when he phoned the Swan residence, he was calling from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The famous statue of Christ the Redeemer can be seen outside his window.
It's Jake, the only werewolf with the light golden brown fur. In the book, the heart attack suffered by Harry Clearwater (Graham Greene) was the result of natural causes.
The Volturi did not kill Bella for knowing about vampires while she was human because Alice's vision was enough to appease Aro (Michael Sheen) for the time being. That's why he gave the stipulation that they better not wait long before changing her. He was giving them a second chance, partially because he was curious to see what powers she might develop after her transformation, considering he couldn't access her mind as a weak human.
Stephenie Meyer explained: The term "new moon" refers to the phase of the moon opposite a full moon. It is when the sun is on the opposite side of the moon from us and thus the bright side of the moon is not visible from earth. This is the darkest kind of night. "New Moon" is the darkest period of Bella's life.
"The Twilight Saga" was added as name recognition for movie-goers who are not familiar with the series.
The second part of the franchise, New Moon, includes almost 7.5 minutes of additional footage which, however, does not really offer anything new and was already included in the deleted scenes feature of the old DVDs and Blu-rays. Thus, there are a few new plot scenes which are rather something nice to have than mandatory.
