The exploding truck toward the end of the movie required extra care because filming was done at an historic site. There was a crowd of people watching the explosions that were not visible when filming but were obscured by trees on set.
The action scene, including a truck that explodes, were filmed at Sloss Furnaces, a national historic landmark located in Birmingham Alabama. Most of the filming was in the Blowing Engine Building and Water Tower. Morgan Freeman's character was killed in an area called the Slag Pit.
