Diane Kruger‘s preparation for her role in the upcoming psychological thriller Little Disasters was a reflective process.

“It’s a very weird time for any woman, right?” the Troy and Inglourious Basterds star tells The Hollywood Reporter about becoming a mother. “You lose control of who you were before. Fremantle is readying to unleash ‘Sandokan’ onto industry insiders during next week’s London TV Screenings.

“It’s simply a great epic adventure, based on a known IP. It’s ‘Poldark’ meets ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’,” enthuses CEO Commercial and International Jens Richter, promising action, adventure and some good old-fashioned pirating.

Starring Can Yaman (“Daydreamer”), Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”) and John Hannah (“Spartacus: Blood and Sand”), it’s based on the series of novels by Emilio Salgari and produced by Fremantle’s Italian content powerhouse Lux Vide. Set in the mid-1800s, it heads to a place inhabited by native Dayak tribes yet dominated by British law. Sandokan is used to fighting for his survival, but one thing catches him by surprise: love.

“There’s a portion of romance,” admits Richter. With each episode set in a different environment, “Sandokan” will “fit the needs of the market perfectly,” he adds.

The film version of John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan is shaping up. It was reported late last year that Sienna Miller will star alongside the former star of The Office in the upcoming film adaptation, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Now, Deadline is reporting that four more actors have joined the Tom Clancy-inspired thriller.

Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, JJ Feild and Betty Gabriel have all joined Jack Ryan along with Miller. Gabriel is also a former cast member who appeared in the third and fourth seasons of the series. Amazon will be producing in association with Paramount Pictures and Skydance. Additionally, Krasinski and Allyson Seeger are producing via their Sunday Night production, and Andrew Form is also on board this project as a producer.

Smile 2 is the sequel to the 2022 horror hit, Smile. The franchise centers on a demonic force called The Entity, which plagues its victims with horrifying hallucinations of people smiling creepily. THR reports that Sienna Miller (Anatomy of a Scandal) will star alongside John Krasinski in the upcoming Jack Ryan movie which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The Jack Ryan series came to a close last year after four action-packed seasons. Although plot details for the movie are being kept under wraps, it will once again feature Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst. Miller will play an MI6 agent who is essentially Ryan’s British counterpart. Wendell Pierce (The Wire) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards) are also set to return as James Greer and Mike November, respectively. Andrew Bernstein, who served as an executive producer and director on Jack Ryan’s second season, will direct the movie from a screenplay by Aaron Rabin, who was a co-executive producer and writer on the final season.

Sienna Miller is set to star opposite John Krasinski in the Jack Ryan feature that is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.

The project is being described as the next evolutionary step to the adventure series that proved to be a hit for the company and will feature several actors from the show reprising their roles, including Wendell Pierce (The Wire) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).

Jack Ryan season two executive producer and director Andrew Bernstein will helm the film, which has a script penned by Aaron Rabin, who served as a co-executive producer and writer on season four.

The show was based on the characters and so-called “Ryanverse,” created by author Tom Clancy, but took place in modern times. It ran for four seasons on Prime Video, where it is ranked among the streamer’s top three most-watched series globally.

Cannes Award-winning actor Kruger plays Jess in the adaptation of the Sarah Vaughan novel. When she takes her baby daughter to hospital with a head injury that she can’t explain, her close friend and on-duty A&e doctor Liz must make the excruciating decision of whether to call social services on her longtime friend. This decision sets in motion a chain of events that show how one moment can fracture and nearly destroy entire families and friendships. The show also stars Jo Joyner, Patrick Baladi (Ted Lasso), Shelley Conn, Emily Taaffe, JJ Feild, Ben Bailey Smith and Stephen Campbell Moore.

Kruger has had far more movie roles than TV but she did play Detective Sonya Cross in FX’s version of The Bridge last decade. The German actor, who broke out in 2004’s epic war film Troy, was described as an “intelligent and dynamic actress, whose sheer presence brings with it a unique quality that leaves you inspired” by Little Disasters director Eva Sigurdardottir.

“Attaching Diane allowed me to explore sides of Jess’ character in deeper ways than I had anticipated,” she added. “Little Disasters is a story of a warm and loving mother who is hiding a dark secret, and Diane navigated that character so elegantly, with relatable and warm performances, as well as truly haunting and thrilling moments.”

That relatability attracted Sigurdardottir to Little Disasters, she told us, along with a “tension and thriller engine rooted in very relatable and familiar domestic settings.”

“I am a filmmaker who is drawn to brutally real and gritty stories, and here we had a glamorous and aspirational setting, yet with a terrifying central conflict – a hurt child,” she added.

Marianna Abbotts is exec producing for Big Boys producer Roughcut TV, which has recently moved into drama. She said she “fell in love with” Vaughan’s novels after reading Anatomy of a Scandal. “Sarah often writes about professional women who are forced to make impossible decisions. At the heart of Little Disasters is a really difficult moral dilemma when one friend is forced to call social services on another,” she added.

To aid with tackling these sensitive topics, the Roughcut team worked closely with Vaughan along with multiple advisors. “We wanted to portray the issues in the book accurately and it was extremely important to get that right,” said Abbotts. “We consulted medical, police and social service advisers who guided us with accuracy and sensitivity while understanding the need to tell a dramatic story.”

Little Disasters is a six-part series for Paramount+ UK and Ireland. Ruth Fowler and Amanda Duke adapted the series for the screen with Roughcut Television EPs Ash Atalla, Alex Smith and Abbotts on board alongside Vaughan. Simon Judd EPs for Fremantle, Sigurdardottir is the director and Myf Hopkins serves as the producer. The series was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar and will premiere next year. Fremantle is handling global sales.

A fourth Bridget Jones film is on the way, and some returning faces as well as new famous ones have joined the latest installment in the rom-com franchise.

Renée Zellweger, who first brought the titular character to life in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) will return to reprise her role in the film. The news of the fourth film first arrived in April 2024, and a cast has been rounded out. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the working title for the upcoming film.

Beef creator Lee Sung Jin, The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo and Big Little Lies producer Bruna Papandrea will feature at the event, which will be held in Melbourne on July 15-17. The summit is the latest globally-focused TV event on the crowded international calendar.

Season 3 of “Bridgerton” promises everything audiences love about the show: gossip, gloves, and games. This season finally focuses on the romance between Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) which isn’t an easy road because there’s someone else in the mix, Lord Debling (Sam Phillips). Other storylines include Francesca Bridgerton’s (Hannah Dodd) introduction into society which she doesn’t take too well.

Sam Claflin and Rupert Friend will star in the World War II action thriller “Perdition” from writer-director Henry Dunham (“The Standoff at Sparrow Creek”).

Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce for Thunder Road Pictures, whose credits include the John Wick franchise, with Claflin executive producing.

Mister Smith Entertainment is launching international sales on the film at the Cannes Film Market with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group co-representing North American rights.

The film, currently in pre-production, is scheduled to start principal photography this fall.

A Quiet Place: Day One doesn’t hit theaters until the end of June, but the cast is already hard at work promoting the movie!

Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn stepped out for a photo call on Wednesday (May 1) at Iet London: Savoy Place in London, England.

Joining the stars for the photo call was Schnitzel the Cat, who plays Lupita‘s cat in the film. After everyone fell in love with the dog from Anatomy of a Scandal when he appeared at press events and awards shows, it seems like this may become a new trend!

A couple months ago, Lupita and Joseph walked the red carpet together at the Oscars.

Exclusive: The Forsyte Saga, John Galsworthy’s sweeping portrait of a wealthy British family in 1880s London, is getting its third TV adaptation in less than 60 years.

PBS Masterpiece has set a six-part season based on the 1920s novels, with BAFTA-nominated Poldark writer Debbie Horsfield penning the adaptation, designed to become a returning series.

It follows the BBC’s 1967 adaptation, which was watched by audiences of up to 18M. The 2002 version aired on ITV and featured a cast including Damian Lewis and Gina McKee.

The latest reimagining is housed at Mammoth Screen, the ITV Studios-backed British production company behind Parade’s End, The Serpent, and Victoria. Filming begins next month in England, Wales, and Italy.

Mammoth has gathered an ensemble cast for the series, led by BAFTA-winner Francesca Annis (Lillie), who plays formidable Forsyte matriarch Ann.

Up next, Friend will be seen in buzzy New Line thriller Companion opposite Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, and Lukas Gage, as well as Michel Franco’s Dreams alongside Jessica Chastain and Lucio Castro, 2Am’s After This Death, and Pierre Morel’s Canary Black opposite Kate Beckinsale.

Without Valentine’s Day date nights to bolster grosses, ticket sales for “Bob Marley: One Love” fell sharply on Thursday.

The drama about the reggae legend earned $3.8 million in its second day of release, a 73% drop from its debut that brings its stateside total to $17.9 million. The Paramount release is hoping to hit the right notes over Presidents Day. It is projected to earn $30 million to $35 million over the six-day holiday stretch.

Its main competition is from Sony’s “Madame Web,” which is the studio’s latest attempt to expand its Spider-verse of Peter Parker-adjacent heroes and villains. Sony has had a mixed track record, scoring with the likes of “Venom” while falling flat with “Morbius.” “Madame Web” grossed $2.2 million its second day of release, bringing its domestic total to $8.2 million. Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” stirred things up at the Valentine’s Day box office. The biopic about the reggae legend is outpacing estimates after opening to $14 million domestically. It added $4.9 million to its haul from 10 overseas markets, including the U.K., France and Spain. Its global gross stands at $19.4 million.

Those domestic numbers easily overshadow the opening of Sony’s “Madame Web,” the latest entry in the studio’s hit-and-miss, cinematic Spider-verse. The comic book adaptation generated a little over $6 million domestically.

“Bob Marley: One Love” was initially projected to collect $30 million to $35 million stateside between Wednesday and President’s Day on Monday. But unless the grosses are front-loaded, it could exceed those estimates. “Madame Web” is expected to generate $26 million during the same six-day period.

Smile 2 has cast a major character. The movie, which is due in 2024, is the sequel to 2022's Smile, which followed a psych ward therapist encountering an entity that latches onto people by causing trauma, then terrorizes them with visions of smiling people. Sony Pictures has unwound the first trailer for its upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web.

S.J. Clarkson’s feature is part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters and set to hit theaters Feb. 14, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day dates. Dakota Johnson stars in the titular role based on the Marvel comic book character named Cassandra Webb, who is a clairvoyant mutant and can foresee the future for Spider-themed heroes.

Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott round out the cast.

The trailer was released Wednesday and shows Johnson having mysterious encounters with a man from her mother’s past. “I’ve been having visions,” she says in the footage. “If you want to live, you have to trust me.”

Clarkson (Anatomy of a Scandal) directed the film and co-wrote the script with Claire Parker, with the story by Kerem Sanga.
