Writer Chris Millis' original novel (on which the script is based) won 23rd Annual International 3-Day Novel-Writing Contest (2000).
The address on the envelope received by Franklin Franklin is 1700 Marlton Avenue, which does not exist in Los Angeles, California. The Marlton Building, filming location for the apartments, had a street address of 4041 S. Marlton Avenue, and was part of a mixed office and retail development. It has since been demolished.
When Franklin is putting Mr. Olivetti into his car, he says to Mr. Allspice he his moving to Switzerland, Mr. Allspice thought he said "Sweden". Dolph Lundgren (Dr. Sage Mennox) and Peter Stormare (Mr. Olivetti) were born in Sweden, as was Director Jonas Åkerlund.
