Legião Urbana: Perfeição

The final music video of Legião Urbana from the underrated album "O Descobrimento do Brasil" - even though they released two more albums, one of them got a posthumous release after lead singer/composer Renato Russo's death - "Perfeição" is a magnificent poetic video, with romantic and classic elements that reflects a small portion of the critical yet realistic song about Brazil's reality.

True then and more true now, "Perfeição" lyrics deals with themes about the ironic celebration the poet Russo makes of our society with its injustices, social problems, violence, disregard for human life and a world where love has no place. I think this is one of the last rock n'roll hyms of all time and one that wasn't equaled in any way.

As a contrast to all of that, as imagery we have the members of Legião walking around a beautiful location with nature, trees and flower petals floating around Renato while he makes minor moves that looks like a small dance, and there are times when they are playing a strange board game, dressed with clothers from a past era. It's all visually striking and beautiful to look at it. The whole clip has a perfect match when the final verses of the music appears where the lyrics point out to a more hopeful ending to all the problems presented in the song.

I consider this as one of the best moments for the group, highly memorable and their best video overall since by then (early 1990's) music videos were starting to have a concept to present, later on storylines became more common place - a phase Legião didn't live long enough to be part of. But this clip is fine as it is and deserves an enthusiastic thumbs up for its magic, poetry and the feelings it brings to viewers and listeners. 10/10.
