Artist and Mother here
The magical realism, like all good uses of magical realism, made this feel more true than anything else I have ever seen portray motherhood. If we fight the nature of this both beautiful and barbaric state of being we end up disjointed in a way that's so specifically hard that we still don't have adequate words for it. The primal knowing that is so unfamiliar to ourselves because of the way most of society is structured. This was beautiful, hilarious, very real, and shows how deeply dirty motherhood is in a way that is affirming and substantial. This is philosophical in a way I doubt many are going to understand, but I know this film will stand the test of time. MORE OF THIS!
