Dialogue scenes inside the van were shot in a resident neighborhood in Provo. One resident called the police, believing the occupants of the van had kidnapped a female jogger. Multiple units from the Provo Police responded to the call, halting production. When they found out what was really going on, several officers laughed. One even agreed to appear as a police officer in a later scene.
At the time of filming, a majority of the main cast were current or former members of Divine Comedy, a sketch comedy troupe at Brigham Young University.
Donny Osmond was only available several months prior to principal photography. Subsequent script revisions needed to match his dialogue as he could not be reached to shoot new scenes.
The shot following a blue balloon from the rally audience to the second story balcony was accomplished in one take.
The license plate number that Charan Prabhakar provides during the car chase (345 MMM) was, at the time, Prabhakar's own real-life license plate number.
