Barely watchable

I found this show on PBS's app but I am so disappointed by it. None of the characters on any of the episodes are connected to one another. There are different actors on each episode. None of the plots from any episode have any baring on the former or the latter stories. The result is a very confusing mess of poor writing, bad acting, and silly, run-of-the-mill police procedure (one cop chases the bad guy and solves everything!). It's a generic drama set in a non-descript French town that isn't Paris.

Basically, the show is a collection of 90 minute movies that all fall under the guise of a "disturbing disappearance". If the writers had stuck with one cast solving one mystery per episode then the TV show probably would have been easier to follow. Only the first episode is worth watching and the rest get gradually worse and more unrealistic.

An Engrossing French Police Drama

This appears to be an anthology series with a different lead character every couple of episodes. It deserves a higher mark than it has been given here, hence the 10/10. There is enough variety and tension in the storylines to keep you entertained, and although some of the plot can be a little outlandish, the script is tight enough and the acting good enough to hold it together. I hope they do more, although according to IMDB the episode air dates span a long time so they may have already done several seasons. It's also good to see different parts of France as opposed to just Paris, Brittany or the South. Would recommend if you have a spare couple of hours.

Disturbing Disappearences

This French series features a number of cases linked by the common theme of disappearences. Only two of the feature length episodes features the same investigators or is located in the same city. The cases are varied. To describe just three; in one a woman is killed and the nine children she is supervising vanish without trace in a crowded town square; in another a prosecutor is abducted; then there is one where a young mother vanishes leaving her baby. There is a degree of tension in each story but there is also some natural humour.

I rather enjoyed this; I'll admit I was a little surprised when I learnt that there wouldn't be the same investigators in each story but each of the protagonists was fun in their own way. Each story quickly and effectively introduces the new lead. The casts do a solid job bringing their characters to life. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of Euro-crime looking for stories that as wrapped up in ninety minutes.

These comments are based on watching the series in French with English subtitles.
