It was a few years back now that writer-director Richard Gale created a legitimate online phenomenon with his short film The Horribly Slow Murderer With The Extremely Inefficient Weapon. The tale of an ordinary man pursued around the world for years by a curse embodied in the form of a white-faced apparition who beats him (over and over and over again) with a spoon, the short film played pretty much every genre film festival around the world before racking up a massive 28 million views on YouTube. the conceit of the piece, for those unfamiliar, is that the short was presented as a very long trailer for a non-existent movie. And now Gale is actually making that movie.Titled Ginosaji: The Horribly Slow Murderer With The...

Director Paul Hough's The Human Race will be available on VOD, iTunes, and in theaters on Friday, June 13. Recently Hough had a chat with fellow director (and actor in The Human Race) Richard Gale (The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon) about his new movie.
We got a chance to eavesdrop on the Q&A between Hough and Gale so that you can dig the conversation between these two top-notch filmmakers below.
Richard Gale: Up until I met Paul Hough, I had never killed anyone before, in a movie or otherwise. I'm first and foremost a filmmaker - I made the horror comedy short The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, which went viral on YouTube and is currently being developed into a feature film.
Paul Hough: I met Richard on the festival circuit when my film The Angel played at festivals with his amazing short Criticized.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to see Primus last week, and I was pretty much convinced that their stage show was one of the strangest things I'd ever see. However, that theory was shot right to hell this evening when I was introduced to The Horribly Slow Murderer With the Extremely Inefficient Weapon series. Strange, but hilarious! And fans of the series will be thrilled to know the newest installment, Spoon Wars, is available now.
And just to save you the extra clicks, simply scroll down and you'll find Spoon Wars in its entirety right here. For more visit the series creator, Richard Gale's, YouTube page. And for updates on the series, visit Gale's Facebook page.

Fantastic Fest Announces List Of Short Films which includes must sees ‘Cop Hard’ and ‘Infernal Nuns’
The complete list of short films screening at Fantastic Fest has been announced. Unfortunatly as with most short films, there isn’t too much known about many of these. I know Infernal Nuns recieved a lot of praise from various blogs after it screened at Fantasia and Cop Hard is based on the popular web series, but apart from that, I’m pretty much in the dark. What I do know is that sometimes the short films are more rewarding than some features. Remember folks, some of these directors may go on to do some very big things in the near future, so try and check them out. Here is the press release.

Anybody can tell a good tale, spin a quality yarn so to speak, if given an hour and a half. But to accomplish that same feat in 15 minutes or so, now that's doing something. And Fantastic Fest has announced the lineup of 50 films doing just that for this year's program.
The Fantastic Fest shorts will be presented during the festival, which runs September 22-29 in Austin, Texas. With running times as long as thirty minutes and a short as two, and coming from over a dozen countries, the films look as diverse as they will be entertaining. Take a gander at the huge list complied below, and for those of you lucky enough to be in the great state of Texas during the fest, we envy you.

In a bizarre case of life imitating art a student protestor in Chile last week expressed his displeasure at the current state of Chile's education system by dressing up as the villain from Richard Gale's short film The Horribly Slow Murderer With The Extremely Inefficient Weapon and bashing away on a Chilean special forces vehicle with a spoon. Uploaded to YouTube July 28th following a student protest march this appears to be 100% legitimate - the account it was posted from has been active for over a year - and is bizarre, hilarious, and a weirdly effective political statement. You can check both the Chilean video and the short film the character is taken from below....

In its tenth year, The Leeds Film Festival’s “Night Of The Dead” disappointingly lacked its normal predictable balance of a teen slasher, the downright nasty, a zombie movie and Japanese gore, but lived up to its eye-rotting highly entertaining reputation with an extended 12-hour programme running from 10pm to 10 am in its usual home, The Hyde Park Picture House. The Red Bulls were out, cushions were in place, pyjamas worn, the shockingly terrible bad film amnesty was back, a surprise showing of an old favourite made an appearance (Dellamorte Dellamore) and ten rather exciting shorts were shown.

Hard to believe it was fifty years ago today that Alfred Hitchcock changed the face of modern horror cinema forever with the release of Psycho. I wasn't alive when it premiered back in 1960, but as a horror fan it has been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. The effect Hitchcock's film had on horror and suspense cinema is undeniable and has been well documented -- so rather than rehash ground already covered, we've decided to celebrate Psycho's birthday in a different way.

Director Richard Gale created a genuine cult phenomenon with his short film The Horribly Slow Murderer With The Extremely Inefficient Weapon. The epic tale of an ordinary man pursued around the globe for years by a demonic killer who simply smacks him with a spoon over and over and over again, the film traveled the international festival circuit scooping awards virtually everywhere it went before eventually being posted on YouTube by Gale, where it has since been viewed more than four and a half million times. So Gale is doing the sensible thing: He's bringing the spoon killer back.
Spaghetti Dinner of the Damned isn't a true sequel though both of the original characters are back. No, they're doing something different here. Gale has instead created a series titled Ask Jack in which viewers can ask the original film's lead character questions he will answer while being beaten with a spoon.

Winner of 12 film festival awards, Richard Gale's short film The Horribly Slow Murderer With the Extremely Inefficient Weapon tells the epic story of one man's encounter with what could be the most relentless murderer of all time. Based on an idea for a short comedy sketch, the concept was expanded into a mini-epic... a faux-movie trailer with a 10-minute running time, for a feature film with an alleged running time of over nine hours. Starring Paul Clemens (The Beast Within), Brian Rohan (Criticized), Fay Kato, Melissa Paladino and Mike Kacey. Due to the vast number of locations and sequences, the short film required 22 days of shooting (more shooting days than on his feature film The Proposal!) Accomplished with a small cast and crew, the film takes place all over the world, but was shot entirely in Southern California, and by utilizing a greenscreen set up in the director's living room.

Though festival screenings will continue for a couple more days last night marked the last film to premiere at the 2009 edition of PiFan and, along with that, the official awards selection and distribution of awards. And it’s pretty safe to say that closing night belonged to Indonesia with both Indonesian films playing in competition picking up awards while the festival’s third and final film from Indonesia - Merantau - closed things off to a hugely positive audience response. I’ll start with the short film winners, since that was the jury I was on.

It’s been an insomnia inducing start to Fantasia’s thirteenth year. The opening night screenings had no noteworthy horror entries, so Paul and I spent the evening reconnecting with festival regulars, watched some non-genre movies, and plotted the next three weeks of cinematic mayhem. On Friday, after a rest-free three hours of sleep, we soldiered through a painful midnight screening, and are already feeling delirious, just two days in. This is going to be our sixth year covering the fest, and frankly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
