Farewell, My Dear Cramer

Time to play some soccer.

When I first watched this anime, I expected fun and energetic soccer. However, setting my expectation this way backfired. The show focused more on developing the characters and setting up rivalries. Of course, it still fell into the typical underdog storyline, so there were not a lot of surprises.

The animation was similar to Your Lie in April, and that made sense because both shows came from the same author. There were not a lot of soccer, and the animation was kept to a minimum, and sometimes pretty bad. As a soccer fan, naturally I wanted to see more soccer, so I was disappointed.

The character development were pretty boring at first. I didn't feel like understanding the main girl Nozomi enough (the movie did help me to see where she came from and make me like her more). However, towards the end, the stories became better, especially one with the coach, and I started to find more enjoyment.

Overall, a decent first season that mainly set up the characters. I believe that I will enjoy it more when the next season comes out. 6/10.
