Aided by Sebastian Michaelis, his loyal butler with seemingly inhuman abilities, Ciel uses whatever means necessary to get the job done. But is there more to this black-clad butler than meets the eye? In Ciel's past lies a secret tragedy that enveloped him in perennial darkness-during one of his bleakest moments, he formed a contract with Sebastian, a demon, bargaining his soul in exchange for vengeance upon those who wronged him. Today, not only is Sebastian one hell of a butler, but he is also the perfect servant to carry out his master's orders-all the while anticipating the delicious meal he will eventually make of Ciel's soul. As the two work to unravel the mystery behind Ciel's chain of misfortunes, a bond forms between them that neither heaven nor hell can tear apart.

PART 1: On behalf of Queen Victoria, Ciel and Sebastian travel to London to investigate the grisly Jack the Ripper murders that have been haunting the East End. In their mission, they are joined by Angelina Dalles, Ciel's aunt, her butler Grelle Sutcliff, and Lau. PART 2: While investigating the mysterious Anglo-Indian Hangings in London, Ciel and Sebastian run into Prince Soma Asman Kadar and his butler Agni who are quick to invite themselves to the Phantomhive townhouse. The investigation takes a turn when one of Ciel's unwelcome guests is revealed to be connected to the hangings.

Tucked away in the English countryside lies the ominous manor of the Phantomhives, a family which has established itself as the cold and ruthless "Queen's Watchdog" as well as the head of London's criminal underground. After a tragedy leaves the Earl and his wife dead, many are shocked when their son, a young boy named Ciel, claims his place as the new Earl of the Phantomhive house. At first, many perceive him only as a child surrounded by a few eccentric servants. But they soon begin to realize that it is foolish to meddle with Ciel and his demonic butler Sebastian. Taking place at the end of the 19th century, Kuroshitsuji follows these two as they face countless mysteries and dangers that plague England and threaten the Queen, uncovering the truth about what really happened to Ciel's parents in the process.
